Product Description

From the Back Cover

This book illustrates how MATLAB compact and powerful programming framework can be very useful in the finite element analysis of solids and structures. The book shortly introduces finite element concepts and an extensive list of MATLAB codes for readers to use and modify. The book areas range from very simple springs and bars to more complex beams and plates in static bending, free vibrations and buckling problems.

The book is well organized, it presents from the simplest case to the more complex case and all the cases have the theoretical explanation.
It presents the cases used frequently as the 2D and 3D frames and still special cases, such as the Timoshenko beam and the Mindlin plate.
The function "eig" that computes all eigenpairs of a matrix, was used to compute some lowest eigenpairs. This is correct when the matrices are small, but it is expensive when they are large matrices. I recall that in this case should be used the solution of the reduced eigensystem, where it is computed the lowest (or the highest) eigenpairs. This function is executed with "eigs" of MATLAB.
As there are many countries in that the buildings are subjected to earthquake lateral forces, it would be advantageous to consider the vibrations in the frames.
Although the book was prepared for students, it would also have interest to engineers that work for the first time with the of finite elements method.
