3.0 out of 5 stars Helpful, but not for true beginners 4 Jan 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I wanted this book as a complete n00b of programming. It was helpful, but i had to refer to other sources in order to understand some of the maths that it assumes you know. Also it isnt very good at explaining matrices at the start - again too much assumed knowledge. If you know a bit about programming/maths, this is probably perfect, but it suggests it is for use by high school students/teachers learning this stuff for the first time, and for that I would say it's not particularly useful. I like the exercises and worked examples.

Indeed, Matlab for beginners. Easily accessible, very understandable, clear examples. You can't do anything really professional with Matlab after reading the book, but at least you know enough to give it a start.
Don't think the book will solve all your problems, but if you never used Matlab before, it can help you swift through the first steps.

This is a short version of the Matlab introduction. If you want to know Matlab from start, this is an excellent book that leads you step-by-step through the learning process from simple algebra to programming. Just as what the title said, it is a gentle approach to learn Matlab.

5.0 out of 5 stars Matlab for Beginners 20 May 2011

Not as comprehensive as I had imagined from the recommendation I got from a friend. Very elementary and true to its title. What it covers it does extremely well.
5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Lives Up to the Expectation of Gentleness. 4 Sep 2014
By Mr. Math Expert - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
MATLAB for Beginners: A Gentle Approach is a very good, kind book in learning about to use MATLAB. It's like the most simple, straightforward, and non-technical book I've read, and it helps me to make a transition to the second level because I feel ready to tackle more complicated stuff. What's nice is that there are exercises at the end of each section and a complete worked out solutions at the end of the book. All in all, MATLAB for Beginners: A Gentle Approach is really worth the time.
