2.0 out of 5 stars BORING. AN EMBARRASING MESS. 6 Dec 2010
Ever watched a movie that tries to force its own sense of self-importance on you to the point of embarrassing the filmmakers and everyone involved? Of course you have. Well, here's another one that fails to live up to the hype and instead reveals itself to be a fraud. It fails to shock on a level most will be seeking and instead bores us with constant wanna-be 'witty' lines that simply don't sound like anything that anyone would ever say in real life. When the 'shock' scenes finally do come around they are an utter disappointment to say the least! It seems director Vogel's idea of intensity is having a bunch of obnoxious people screaming at the top of their lungs at their 'torture victim' with choppy edits and 'fingers on the chalkboard' sound cues. Uh OK. Yeah. That's really scary and intense. SOME of the gore is OK which is why I'm giving it 2 stars instead of 1, but most of the 'FX' look really fake. This is yet another sad attempt by untalented 'filmmakers' trying to be heard above the din and instead simply embarrassing themselves to no end. If you want to see a 'movie' that alternates between scenes of boredom and scenes that are only designed to grate on your last nerve then go for it. If not then save an extra hour and a half of your life for something much more worthwhile. It's too late for me but at least I can warn others.

4.0 out of 5 stars What Turns You On? 30 Jun 2010
Lesbian lovers, Maddie and Syl, produce and direct their own kinky fetish flicks and their advertising for wannabe porn stars to feature in their dark, twisted games of pleasure; but, conceal a much more disturbing hidden agenda which will prove to be a fatal career choice made by the selected ones. Assisting these two calculated sycophants is a sociopathic indiviual called "The Cowboy". Hidden away in a dungeon and awaiting these victims is a very large man wearing a rather scary mask and a large collection of blood stained tools.

Toetag have gone slightly more upmarket with their latest feature Maskhead. It was written and co-directed by Scott Swan; the man who co-wrote the excellent Masters Of Horror episode directed by John Carpenter titled: Cigerette Burns, but don't expect it to be on the same level of quality because it aint by any stretch of the imagination. The Cowboy is a very interesting character and all the scenes featuring Maskhead are superbly shot and generate some genuine fear.

Maskhead is a slow burner which slips into the realms of boredom on occasions and some of the death moves feel rushed but stick with it because the ending is one of the sickest, most twisted and disgusting gore finales ever to be committed to celluoid. A similar act was implied in Fincher's Se7en but not delivered to the viewer with all the nasty images captured here, so expertly, by a very bad man named Fred Vogel.

Everyone has a fetish. What's yours? What turns you on? If the answer is the content displayed in this flick then don't contact me. I like the emotions these images release from within me but i wouldn't want to meet anybody of this nature. Maskhead successfully renders Leatherface a pussy.
