Book Description

THERON – Dark haired, duty bound and deceptively deadly. He’s the leader of the Argonauts, an elite group of guardians that defends the immortal realm from threats of the Underworld.

From the moment he walked into the club, Casey knew this guy was different. Men like that just didn’t exist in real life—silky shoulder-length hair, chest impossibly broad, and a predatory manner that just screamed dark and dangerous. He was looking for something. Her.

She was the one. She had the mark. Casey had to die so his kind could live, and it was Theron’s duty to bring her in. But even as a 200-year-old descendent of Hercules, he wasn’t strong enough to resist the pull in her fathomless eyes, to tear himself away from the heat of her body.

As war with the Underworld nears, someone will have to make the ultimate sacrifice.

4.0 out of 5 stars "Eternal Guardians" series book 1 22 Oct. 2012
By Book Addict TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Casey has been growing steadily weaker as her 27th birthday approaches. She has no idea that she is part of an ancient prophecy tying her to a secret race of warriors descended from the Gods, yet their enemies the daemons have discovered her and killing her would ensure their queen's immortality.

Leader of the band of warriors the Argonauts, Theron has travelled to the human realm to retrieve Isadora; his fiancée and future queen of their people. When it is revealed that Isadora is also part of the prophecy and could die, Theron heads back to the human world to find the mortal woman that will save Isadora's life, but die herself in the process.

Of course Theron and Casey fall in love, but he fails to tell her the real reasons he wants to take her to his world, and also fails to mention his fiancée. Theron's loyalties are certainly conflicted, but his human side is so suppressed he follows his duty rather than his heart. Casey on the other hand is a little too forgiving when the truth comes out; after all Theron was ultimately leading her to her death.

The plot is enjoyable and predominantly punchy with plenty of drama and action, but it did lag at odd moments. I liked the growth in both Casey and Isadora as they try to do the right thing without hurting the other, plus there are additional characters introduced who certainly warrant their own books. The romance also works well between Theron and Casey (despite his secrets and her reaction when they are revealed). With deadly curses, hunky warriors, meddling Gods and feisty heroines, "Marked" is an exciting start to a new fantasy romance series.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Fantastic Paranormal Romance! 5 Jan. 2015
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is the first book in the Eternal Guardians series. I really enjoyed it!

My sister recommended this series to me as she had read them all (that have been released so far) and thought I would enjoy it. I downloaded this as an audiobook, as it was also recommended by Audible due to my browsing history. How's that for a coincidence?

I started to listen and was quickly pulled into the story. The narrator, Elizabeth Wiley, did a wonderful job in telling the story, but I'm afraid her attempt at foreign accents sounded a bit odd and I would have preferred if she hadn't attempted it at all. Nevertheless, her narration was crystal clear and her tone and modulation for the various characters brought them to life.

Acacia "Casey" Simopolus is a wonderful character. I really liked her. She is not your average wimpy type. She is more kick ass than mousy, which helps when dealing with unruly drunks at the bar she works part time in. But when a mysterious stranger saves her and she later returns the favour, she finds herself thrust into a dangerous world where immortal guardians protect the human population from demons sent from the Underworld.

Theron is a character I wasn't sure if I liked or not. To me, he comes across as very controlling, arrogant and sexist (mostly old fashioned sexism) at times, which made me want to punch him, and I'm not normally a violent person. He is a descendant of Hercules and the leader of a group of guardians, who "police" the demons sent by Hades to the human realm. He and his fellow Argonauts live in Argolea, a city which is in another dimension. When he meets Casey, his life takes an unexpected turn. Could he kill his soul mate to protect his home?

4.0 out of 5 stars A wild ride on the darker side. 7 Jun. 2010
By Detra Fitch VINE VOICE
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Acacia "Casey" Simopolus recently lost her last living relative, her grandmother, to cancer. Now Casey is beginning to notice the symptoms within her. Casey works part time as a waitress in a strip club. A dreadful headache has Casey leaving work a bit early. As she drives off, Casey spies what appear to be large animals mauling a human. This is the first time she has ever seen daemons. Casey cares for the man, Theron, until he is well enough to leave. With his speedy healing, that does not take long.

Theron is not human. He is one of an elite band of guardians against those who would destroy his world, Argolea, if they could. King Leonidas is dying. His sole child and heir, Princess Isadora, is weak and many doubt her ability to lead when the time comes. To save Isadora's life, the king orders Theron to locate Casey and bring her to the princess. With Casey's death, Isadora will live and Argolea will be saved. But Theron suspects that Casey is his soul mate. Will Theron sacrifice his one, true soul mate or all of Argolea?

**** FOUR STARS! Heavily flavored with Greek mythology characters, this story is a wild ride on the darker side. Elisabeth Naughton's writing style lets the tale flow smoothly and never insults the intelligence of the reader. This author has definitely caught my attention. I look forward to finding out whether the next story is as well done. Recommended! ****
