Your TV needs a vga female socket for this to work - it may be labelled "PC" or "D-sub". You have to configure the TV to accept input from this socket. On the laptop you similarly need a vga female socket and the video card must support an external monitor. This cable, when configured at both ends, enable you to view your laptops screen on your TV and use the mouse and keyboard on the laptop to control the image on the TV Screen. So you can play DVDs and use BBC Iplayer on the TV. BUT the cable does not support SOUND on the TV - you can hear the sound through the laptop by using the built in speaker or headphones.

Yes the 5 meter VGA cable is working well and delivered pretty quickly, nice to connect to the TV with the laptop while in my chair watching any old programes on youtube or BBC Internet players with guest coming round.

I use this to connect my laptop to hdtv, you connect this and the audio cable, then depending on your laptop you press The funtion key(Fn) and, on one of my laptops its (F4) on the other one its (F7) at the same time and you can either use both screens or the tv one, I only added this information cause it seems other people have been having problems with it. Otherwise excellent for what its made for.

Signal loss and interference
Using three separate shorter cables instead of this one 5m cable produces a much better signal.

Sever ghosting problems would not recomend
Bought this cable to replace broken vga cable, suffering from severe ghosting make it unusable, avoid this sable at all costs, it does not have adequate shielding for its length.
