Ninjas, Yakuza, cartoon violence, pretty japanese girls (and boys) and a devilish drill bra - what is not to like? Hilarious and completely over the top japanese pulp that had me laughing for the duration - not since "The Evil Dead" have I seen such special effects and buckets of gore. The villains are so ultra-villainous (even the parents of the evil teenagers engage in the ultra-violence) and Ami's brother is so ultra-saintly (he appears occasionally post mortem with a bit of a glow on) that cheering on the right side (take your pick) is not a challenge.Machine Girl is sexy, righteous and fearless - do not mess with her! Good price for the DVD too.

Fabulous gore fest. Shoddy acting, tasteless gore a go-go - I think this movie is wonderuful! I came across it after pulling through a depraved obsession with Meatball Machine :) Sure, it's not going to be everyones taste, but if you recognise it for what it is you will find an amusing story line, excellently gross battle scenes (Tempura-ing your enemy? Brilliant!) and loveable characters.

A very typical off the wall Japanese film! Pretty girl goes nuts for revenge!
Bucketloads of blood all over the place! Gunning, slicing & dicing!
It's all there in a wonderful soup mix as only the Japanese can do it!
Put your brain in neutral, sit back with a tinny & laugh at the absurdity!
For my money, fantastic silliness at it's very best!
I'm hoping they make a sequel as the closing sequence of the film suggests!

THE MACHINE GIRL is probably the peak of humanity's endeavours in the cinematic artform - a film so ridiculous, so violent, so inspirationally absurd and obscene that all other film makers must look at their own efforts and think "What a fool I have been, for I did not make THE MACHINE GIRL... and I could have done so". Films like this are, frankly, the only reason I have not drilled my own eyeballs out already.

This film is very, very violent and is just an excuse for a blood fest. The Japanese seem to like this kind of film. The special effects are quite good and one of the extras shows how they are done.

I would not recommend this movie for a family night in, more for when a few guys get together with some beers.

**** slight spoilers ****

The Machine Girl is a deliriously OTT black comedy/splatter-fest, with outrageous comic-book gore by the bucket-load. It should appeal to those of you who enjoyed 'Ichi The Killer' although, truth be told, this is a rather less accomplished work than Takashi Miike's visceral opus. Indeed many of the deaths and maimings are quite similar to those in Ichi, but don't go looking for any hidden depths here, 'cos there aren't any! The plot consists of a simple revenge motif - Ami, a normal if slightly dippy schoolgirl, is turned into a revenging monster by the death of her brother, murdered by bullies. Unfortunately for Ami, the chief bully is the psychopathic son of a ninja/yakuza family and her first encounter with them leaves her minus an arm. Well what can you do under those circumstances eh? Perhaps as a slight hat-tip to Ash in Evil Dead, you strap a weapon to it. In this case it just happens to be a huge kick-arse machine gun. As Ami battles her way through boss yakuza's minions in true comic-book style we are treated to increasingly gory set-pieces and frantic combat and torture scenes, one of which even made this hardened gore-hound wince a little! It was quite amusing how each adversary announced themselves and struck an heroic pose before attacking! Annoyingly though (well for me anyway) the final show-down with the son and his particularly nasty mother is ruined by gross over-use of strobe lighting, rendering it utterly unwatchable. That's about it! Machine Girl rattles along at a helluva pace and is undeniably entertaining. The usual making-of extras are also worth a look.

The Blu-Ray presentation though, is extremely poor. Overall picture quality is grainy with heavily jagged aliasing evident on all diagonal lines.

Absolutely bonkers film. The blood is so over the top, this is more like a live action cartoon. Perfect post-pub fodder.
