Product Description

Book Description

The original Mac OS X created a new standard for stability and ease-of-use for any computer operating system. The latest version, OS X v10.4 Tiger, raises that standard even higher and provides an OS that Windows users can only dream about (or wait until next year to experience the equivalent). Whether you want to edit digital images, create your own movies, conduct video conferencing or synchronize a variety of digital devices, OS X Tiger can handle all of these things, and much more, with ease, simplicity and style.

Mac OS X Tiger in easy steps initially takes a detailed look at the operating system and shows how to get the most out of items such as the Dock, the Finder and the hugely successful Exposé feature. It also covers the stunning new search facility, Spotlight and the Dashboard suite of handy widgets that are available directly on the Desktop.

The book then looks at some of the applications that can be used with OS X, including the iLife suite of iPhoto, iTunes, iMovie, iDVD and GarageBand. Also covered are new features such as video conferencing with iChat AV, using RSS (Really Simple Syndication) with the Safari web browser and creating and using smart folders to organize documents and emails.

The final chapters look at issues such as working with multiple users, printing, troubleshooting and more advanced features such as networking, going wireless, using AppleScript and the new Automator function for simplifying repetitive tasks.

Overall, Mac OS X Tiger in easy steps shows how to use a program that manages to pull off the trick of being a joy to use while providing revolutionary power and versatility.

3.0 out of 5 stars Basic- great for technophobes!, 9 Feb 2007
This review is from: MAC OS X Tiger in Easy Steps (Paperback)
For a complete newbie to the world of Mac, I was pleased to find a book that was basic and user friendly. It doesn't cover any aspect of Tiger in any great detail, but it's good for understanding the fundamental programmes and giving the user bit of self confidence. Best suited for technophobes and those who want to learn but don't have time either to experiment or to carefully read a more concise manual.
