ASUS has released new hardware and software designs to shorten system boot-up time to 2-seconds* for a smoother user experience that removes annoying delays under Windows 8, and even previous versions of Windows. Faster system boot and restart means Windows starts quicker and higher efficiency - No more waiting around.

Multi-startup Options Thanks to ASUS Windows 8 hardware optimization, ASUS Boot Setting provides better flexibility in customizing your PCs startup process. You can enter the BIOS directly with one click through a user-friendly interface, and quickly select your preferred system boot up method: either get to the OS in seconds or opt for regular boot up. Whatever your choice, settings are saved and persistent, with no need to choose every time you power on.

A Dedicated Button to Access the BIOS Directly Designed for those requiring frequent BIOS access, users can easily enter the BIOS automatically when the PC is on standby power with the simple press of a button. It saves you time during boot-up from having to repeatedly press the DEL key. Convenience and ease at its best!

Introduction
------------

I run the M5A97 EVO R2.0 with an AMD FX-3850 processor, a single XFX 7850 graphics card (which obscures the first PCIe x1 slot) on twin 22" monitors. Also single SSD (boot drive) 750GB hard disk, two system fans and a Noctua NH-D14 on CPU cooling duty. Power comes through a Corsair AX760 supply. Both PCI slots are filled, one with an old IDE interface card (I don't see why I have to shell out for a SATA DVD reader, especially when reliability of these things seems to be getting worse by the minute) and a DVB TV card. That leaves the PCIe x4 slot and one PCIe x1 slot available for other stuff. (If I were to pop in a second double-width graphics card, I'd also lose one of the PCI slots.)

All of this fits very nicely into my 9 year-old Antec Sonata mid-tower case. The computer is plugged into a power meter so I can keep an eye on consumption.

Multi-tasking
-------------

I imagine the computer spends most of the time running near idle, with daily use for web browsing, listening to music, watching videos, creating and maintaining spreadsheets and using database applications. I occasionally play games, and more often use Handbrake to convert TV recordings into mp4 files; this is a very CPU-intensive job and something that the FX processor excels at.

If you're like me you're never actually just running one program. A system like this is designed to be doing a lot of things at the same time, and this board allows the FX-8350 to do that without any hesitation or stuttering. As an example I can now do my video transcoding on full whack and still use the system quite normally.

So I got this board as I don't intend to use Crossfire again after my last experience a few years back on Intel. (Although to note the board does support it, the second X16 slot is 4x electrical at PCIe 1.1 speed). It's also a true black PCB, not one of these brown ones.

The board uses a 6+2 Digi+ VRM which is well crafted and has taken my FX8320 to 4.7GHz /5 turbo. It has 4 fan headers that can be fully controlled (even 3 pin fans) via bios/asus software. The AM3+ socket is obviously there in all its glory. Right angled SATA connectors is a nice plus from a cabling standpoint.

The UEFI BIOS is brilliant and there is no lag to be found (Gigabyte...). Plenty of things for overclocking, power saving and controlling hardware.

I bought this for my first ever PC build, to go along with an AMD FX6300 CPU. This Motherboard worked with this CPU straight out of the Box. The Bios was almost up to date, but I updated it anyway (although not necessary / made no noticeable difference) and it could not have been simpler. The Bios is very user friendly and easy to navigate, even for beginners like myself. I ended up using the default Bios settings anyway - so far so good. Other good features include. LED's for each major component (CPU, memory etc.) which light up green if ok and red if there is a problem. The Motherboard itself has a quality feel to it also, compared to some other makes with many other features / extras included. The software bundled with it, includes direct Bios access from your Windows Desktop and AI Tuner which allows you to monitor temperatures, Fan speeds, etc. I like this board a lot and think it was worth paying a bit extra for the future upgradeability it will offer, such as support for a faster 6/8 core CPU.

Not a bad board, had no problems, and for the time being does what I expected for a medium priced Board.

A very good quality board, in fact what I would expect from Asus. Fairly easy to fit if you have a bit of computer know how although I would not recommend it if you don't. Bios has uefi and legacy bios which confused me at first because I am not totally computer literate. Unfortunately I had to send the first one back as one of the memory slots was causing me problems. As usual Amazon were brilliant and replaced it without problem. Second one booted up first time and did what was expected of it recognising the ram size and speed. Anyway we are now up and running without problems and I have even updated the bios through the Asus easy update programme. It coped easily when I updated to Windows 8.1 pro. Overall very pleased and a big thank you to both Asus and Amazon.

This has to be the easiest installation I've ever done. I built the computer, turned it on, it told me it sensed a new processor and took me to the bios. Bios interface is easy, intuitive and you can use a mouse. I checked the settings against my hardware specs, adjusted my ram to the 1600mhz it was rated at and restarted. Installed windows and was good to go.

The board has an impressive 6+2 Phase Power Design and has 100% solid capacitors which means it can take quite a lot when overclocking.

I've only had this for around a month and I'm fighting the urge to overclock my AMD FX 8320. I always like to get the feel for my system over a few months before I overclock so that I can appreciate the new boost, but this motherboard is so damn easy to overclock it's hard to resist. It even has a feature that automatically overclocks your processor safely while you sit back and watch.

Other features like firewire, e-sata and USB 3.0(two at the back and two at the front) are just the icing on the cake for me.

A board this good should cost a lot more, and that is why I chose it. For this price, you are not going to get a better board, trust me, I did my research.
