5.0 out of 5 stars Best value collection of Escher's best-known prints, 11 Mar 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: M.C. Escher : The Graphic Work (Paperback)
I had an earlier re-printing of this collection (which first appeared in the 'fifties) that got damaged, so I was pleased recently to get a copy of this latest edition. It has over seventy one-a-page reproductions of Escher's best-known prints, selected by him, with his brief but very useful comments on each. The quality of the reproductions is very good, with crisp linework, solid blacks, and dense, rich tonal areas. About 15 prints are reproduced in colour. Really exceptional value at the price. As the text is so short I recommend Bruno Ernst's "The Magic Mirror of M. C. Escher", which explains in detail how the images were created, as a companion volume. Together they are really all the Escher fan needs.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Graphic Work, 13 Sep 2011

This review is from: M.C. Escher : The Graphic Work (Paperback)
I recently bought a number of M.C.Escher books and this is the best. It's a decent size book with around 70-80% of just his drawings. Each drawing has its own page making it uncluttered and clear to view- they are also crisp and sharp showing good print quality . The beginning of the book has a paragraph or so devoted to each drawing describing what is going on. Great if you just want to look and maybe even try drawing them yourself. Very good value.

5.0 out of 5 stars astounding images, 24 Aug 2011

This review is from: M.C. Escher : The Graphic Work (Paperback)
Whereas the work of most artists will only interest some, I think no one, from children upward, could fail to be amazed by Escher's graphic art: mosaics of living images, metamorphoses of one form to another and weird takes on perspective in a rather spooky and surreal world. This book contains 76 b/w images, preceded by an introduction by the artist, and a description of each reproduction. Truly brilliant and imaginative
