This is an excellent high quality soundcard and probably one of the cheapest ways you can get Pro Tools to run on a standard PC (subject to PC spec). It's drivers are rock solid I've owned this card for a couple of years and can't remember the last time I had an audio issue on my computer. The only thing I would recommend is that you install it in a PCI slot as far away from other equipment as possible, such as hard drives, as being an internal card does mean that it can pick up electrical noise if installed too close. Mine is fine in the end bay :) This album was recorded using this card Festival of the Gods .

I bought this sound card around a month ago now. So far I've had zero problems with it, all the drivers for Windows Vista SP2 worked perfectly. I use this in conjunction with Cubase 5, Reason and Ableton. I've had no problems again, with any of the programs using the soundcard and latency is down to around 0.6ms. This card is perfect if you want to start creating music easily and of good quality. My MIDI controller plugs directly into the breaker cable and its very easy to install the soundcard in the PCi slot.
Overall, a very good product, speedy delivery. Took less then 10 mins to set up and have had no problems whatsoever. I would recommend this product highly!! BUY THIS!

An extremely good sound card, ideal for home studio recording and music creation on a budget. Most cards for MIDI/audio functions cost at least double this, as I soon found when I started looking for something more serious than Soundblaster-type cards for gamers etc. I've got two music keyboards and a Hi-fi amp working to Cakewalk Sonar and find this card provides the ideal no-frills interface with very high quality sound. Yes there is a certain amount of fiddling needed to get the setup right, but no really serious problems and I'm certainly no expert on audio. A couple of points to note though - don't use the disc that comes with it to do the install, instead go to M-Audio's excellent website where all the latest drivers & software are available for free download (e.g. I found Vista SP3 fully supported). Secondly, if you use Vista's "sleep" function under power-saving (i.e. shutdown hard discs), it will crash the system (screen-savers and display shutdown still work OK). Personally I don't find this a great problem - just use the Off button instead. Finally, Amazon's supplier for this item (Absolute Music) was first-rate, very quick and very efficient.

I bought this to finally replace an SBLive card that i'd fooled myself into thinking was still reasonable. Ten years passed quickly!

This card is very functional as far as I can tell and the Windows 7 ASIO drivers, once you manage to find them, drive the card very well also. I can't say i've had it long enough to really test it but sound quality is good and it shows no signs of any latency, which was my main reason for buying a bottom of the line pro audio card rather than weak mid-range gaming card.

The only drawback is the lack of power management support to allow the machine to sleep with this card inside it, which I think might apply to all versions of Windows, not just 7. It seems there may be a somewhat complicated workaround for that but so far no luck in getting it to work. From reading around I get the impression that M-Audio aren't particularly responsive to such issues, and there doesn't seem to be any official response to this one, so that seems a fair assessment.

4 because it does what I bought it for 100%
-1 because it's wasting my electricity not letting my machine sleep.

I own two of these, and they are fab. Excellent value for money. Highly recommended and a cheap entry path into Pro-Tools M-Powered. Seamless Midi. But beware PCI is on its way out as a standard - your next mobo may not support it.

Note: Vista drivers now available on the m-audio website. But who wants Vista with DRM on a DAW anyway...? Stick with XP.

I was advised to buy this because I was finding that my multi-track recording, through the USB sound device I was using, was overloading my computer's CPU, causing stuttering, pops and various other glitches. This unit solved the problem, as well as providing better sound quality. Furthermore, this card fulfils the demands in quality of the recording industry at a nice low price.

I've never used the midi features as I compose directly through the software, and there's some mixer and other features in the software that many people, including me, don't understand, but don't need to use either. Be warned however, that the accompanying CD only includes an outdated Windows XP driver (I have no idea about the Apple one).
You will need to download the latest drivers from the M-Audio website for later XP and Windows 7 drivers, but this is the usual practice nowadays anyway.

Unfortunately, this card is only in PCI connector format, so will likely become unusable in years to come as PCI-E becomes the standard in computer motherboards.

I have been using this sound card for the past five years and it has served me very well through university and to this day. My one arrived with Pro Tools M-Powered DAW CD in the box which I used for around 15mins then switched back to Cubase with a Reason rewire setup. Installation was easy for me and once I had setup my software to use the correct M-Audio ASIO driver I noticed an instant change in audio quality and it has caused me no problems at all performance wise. If you have a PCI interface and don't want to spend loads or go external then I don't think you can do much better than one of these. However as others have mentioned PCI will be on its way out in the not to distant future so that's worth keeping in mind.

DOES THE JOB VERY WELL.
