In this book, Sting invites the question of how successfully his song lyrics can survive on their own, devoid of their musical accompaniment, and whether they actually represent poetic prose. The book takes the reader on a journey through the thoughts of the author, as a rock musician, with commentaries and introductory narratives for selected songs.
Despite some lyrics falling flat when presented in their raw state without the accompanying music, many songs' lyrics are resilient and substantial enough to work surprisingly well as a form of poetry. It is interesting to observe the development of Sting's lyrical prowess over the past 30 years, from the early days of The Police to the more sophisticated Synchronicity era and his subsequent solo career. The book certainly provides a unique collection of the impressive body of work that Sting has produced.
The aesthetics and presentation of the contents in this book are of the highest quality. No doubt fans of Sting will appreciate both the lyrics as well as the sepia photos of the author over the years, interspersed throughout the text.
Poetry or a collection of words . . . you decide, but it's worth a look to find out.

If you are a Sting fan, then it`s perfect for you. In this book there are all lyrics from first Police album until Sting last album in 2003. For me it was interesting to read Sting`s comments about songs - some longer, some shorter. In beggining of every album, there are Sting`s comment - how that particular album was made. Now i listen to many songs differently, because i understand meaning of them, not only what i thought of them, but also what Sting was trying to say to us.

"lyrics" is something we used to say at school when there were some particularly stupid lyrics in a song. Except, we said it more like "leereeks". Read more
