'This album right here is, to me, the best so far,' says Mr. Jones, who is releasing the collection through his own label, Candy Man Music. 'I know a lot of artists say that, but I really feel that way. This is one you can play from beginning to end. I like to give a message in the music and I think that with this particular album, I really went into depth about certain situations we find ourselves in. I named it LYRICS because from the very start of my career, that's what I've tried to build on, writing strong lyrics and making sure that whatever I put out there, people can understand.'
About the Artist
Donell Jones is an American R&B singer who escaped a gang-blighted upbringing to gain respect as a singer-songwriter and producer. Despite being born the son of gospel music legend Bobby Jones, Jones' upbringing was rough. He struggled between wanting to be a musician and a member of a street gang. Solid songwriting skills earned him credits as author of several hits including Usher's 1995 hit 'Think Of You' and 702's 'Get It Together.' He released his debut solo effort, My Heart, in 1996. This was followed up by his Platinum-selling sophomore album, 'Where I Wanna Be', which included the hits 'U Know What's Up', a collaboration with Lisa 'Left-Eye' Lopes

Donell Jones is back,one of the greatest r&b singers around makes his long awaited return.
This album is pretty good with some nice tunes,the man should get more exposure,he for me is the king of r&b.

I'm a big Donnel Jones fan and have his previous 4 albums. His last album came out 4 years ago so I've been waiting a long time for this album to drop.
"Lyrics" isn't as good as any of his other albums, not even half as good to be honest. The production on some of the tracks feels lazy & he seems to have jumped on the synth/house/r'n'b crossover style on a couple joints("What's Next") which everyone seems to be doing these days.
Listen to this before you buy, my fave tracks are "Your Place", "Stripclub", "All About Sex" which is the best cut on the album by far & "The Finer Things In Life"
