THE RIME OF THE ANCIENT
• MARINER KUBLA KHAN

FROST AT MIDNIGHT

THIS LIME-TREE BOWER MY PRISON

DEJECTION: AN ODE

The poetic output of Samuel Taylor Coleridge (1772-1834) was modest and fragmentary, but included some of the greatest poems of the Romantic period. On this recording Sir Ralph Richardson reads five of Coleridge's finest works, ranging in style from the haunting narrative of 'The Rime of the Ancient Mariner' to the dark and mysterious 'Kubla Khan' and the quietly reflective 'Frost at Midnight'.

I bought this because it had a couple of poems I wanted to read again - Khubla Khan, & the Ancient Mariner, so I wasn't disappointed. However, there are many many more verses in this edition which are well worth reading, and quite haunting in their own way. I thoroughly recommend this edition.

Format: Paperback
A nondescript paperback but packed with great poetry [much of which is still surprisingly relevant today] in a comprehensive and well laid out edition. The introduction and notes provide some useful background to the poems, adding interest to a home copy and making it cheap and useful starting point for academic study.

but its still the best attempt at a study guide for lyrical ballads ive seen. it has a summary of each poem which is useful and a short glossary of words that might seem hard.
