I am passionate about history, particularly in defending the underdogs who have otherwise been vilified over the years, like Lucius Cornelius Sulla, who was the subject of my first book. I am very interested in the later Roman Republic, when so many fascinating and inspiring people walked the world stage together, and to extend this interest I am a member of the Roman Society. I have also for some years been a member of the Richard III Society - another badly misjudged man, who has fortunately, through the work of the Society over a long period, has begun to be seen differently and judged more fairly. I have a particular interest in Medieval Monasticism, especially with regard to the Cistercian Order in Yorkshire.I have given many talks on these subjects and am happy to share my enthusiasms with anyone who is interested in such subjects. Another personal favourite of mine is the Tudor period, and I am presently writing a book on the relationship between Queen Anne Boleyn and Cardinal Thomas Wolsey. Again, both enigmatic people who have often been misunderstood. Their relationship, fraught with conflict, should make for an exciting blend of political and personal intrigue, leading to tragedy. I have many other future plans, from writing historical articles, giving talks (which I thoroughly enjoy because of the face to face interaction between speaker and audience), together with plans for more books in the future, with the emphasis on history and dipping a toe into controversy, with regard to people whom I believe have been slandered and misrepresented. On a personal level, I love the countryside, all animals, and Terry Pratchett's Discworld series!
