Very good episodes. 14 Nov 2008
Paradise Lost

The rape and murder of a young, white schoolteacher, leads to the arrest of her black boyfriend Milton Jones. But as
accusations of racism begin to fly, new evidence establishes Milton's innocence,
turning him from suspect to witness. Now the team must infiltrate a hostile and suspicious community to catch the real killer.

Curriculum Vitae

A working mother arrives home to find her baby girl dead and her nanny missing. The nanny is on the run, so it seems cut and dried. But the deeper they look, the more complex it becomes. With the discovery of identity theft, babies sedated with cannabis, and skeletons in family closets, it becomes hard to separate the innocent from the guilty.

Mirror Image

The high profile murder of a Metropolitan Police Commander and his wealthy wife puts Walker, Connor and the team under pressure to get a fast result. Missing jewellery indicates a burglary gone wrong, but with relatives set to profit from their deaths, the police focus is on the family; in particular identical twin sons, Michael and Rory.

Disappointing 12 April 2011
Having watched all the previous episodes of the brilliant Trial and Retribution, I was looking forward to more of the same in this series. However, having been warned in reviews for later series that other writers were being used, I was hoping that this would not mar this one as 2 of the 3 episodes are not written by Lynda la Plante. Having watched the first episode, unfortunately my fears were justified. The writer seems to have never seen a previous episode and the characters are shallow and a shadow of those we have come to love and hate. Roisin Conner seems to have become a pussy cat who rolls over at the first hint of criticism from Mike Walker. And Mike has become some kind of huggy huggy wimp. Where is the guts and grit of these characters? The atmospheric xylophone music has also been replaced by moody sax - this never worked in Frost so why use it here? It is like watching a completely different, vastly inferior series. There is no tension, no characterisation and poor plot. I can only hope that things improve in the second episode and that Lynda redeems herself in episode 3. This series is promoted in Lynda la Plante's name - it is being tarnished by the use of 3rd rate writers.

There nothing I enjoy more than relaxing/indulgeing in yet another episode of Trial and Retribution.
The stories rank A1 in entertainment value, escapism and multi-layered, cleverly interwoven plots.
All except episode 8, which was unmemorable, have been gripping, with superb characterisation and interaction between Walker (and North originally) and now Conner. There are overtones of intrigue in their possible love-hate relationship and the competition and banter between them is outrageously forthright, upfront, yet shows great mutual respect.
12-14 are no exception with fast moving, exciting, violent plots and terrific acting skills all round.
My only criticism is that the episodes are getting shorter. 1-8 were well over 3 hours, 9-14 are just over 2 hours. The fifth collection are an hour and a half and the final episodes 1 hour.
Is this profit by stealth via the progressively poorer value for money in reduced viewing time?

Yet another winner. Although long, one's attetion is held all the time. There will always be characters one likes or dislikes, but a jolly good watch overall. PM
