The Harp Consort does it again - if you've never of them, dive in and buy. I came across them first in a more recent recording, Spanish Gypsies, which is Celtic and Spanish music from the 17th century. But Luz y Norte is chiefly the performance of the work of a single composer, Lucas Ruiz de Ribayaz from Madrid. But he travelled to South America, and collected tunes from Italy and Africa as well. The Harp consort led by Andrew Lawrence King is compsed of guitars, lutes and other renaissance/baroque stringed instruments played by the gifted amateur and professional musician alike. These are delicious, lively melodies, engaging, dramatic and sensuous.
