Product Description

Product Description

Among the open-air museums along the banks of the Nile River are the archaeological district formed by Luxor (ancient Thebes) and the Valley of the Kings, "rediscovered" a century ago. The two sites form an exceptional repository of historical and artistic riches still awaiting complete exploration.
This volume is dedicated to the monuments of Luxor and the vast region known as the Valley of the Kings. Through tours of all the most important sites, analysis of the finds and the splendid works of art contained in the burial chambers, and explanation of the latest archaeological discoveries, this book reconstructs historical events buried beneath the sands for thousands of years. It offers the reader, with the help of magnificent photographs and detailed maps, a fantastic voyage through the Ancient Egypt of the pharaohs.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Failed Masterpiece, 11 Dec 2005
By Robert Lamarche - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Luxor and the Valley of the Kings (Treasures of Ancient Egypt) (Hardcover)
If stunning, exquisite photography of one of the richest archaeological areas in the world is what you are expecting from this book, you will not be disappointed. For that achievement I would give it 10 out of 5 possible stars. It is really that good. However, if you are looking for precise information and scholarly discourse about the temples, tombs and artifacts, you might find yourself confused, irritated or misinformed. The book, originally written in Italian, seems to have been translated with the help of chinese pirated software. Errors abound that would have been easily caught by an English-speaking egyptologist. That step was obviously overlooked. Elsewhere, a map of the region shows the Temple of Karnak turned 180-degrees! What a shame. I hope there will be a second, revised printing so I can buy a new copy to enjoy without cringing at the words...
