Product Description

Product Description

"Why does a blonde commit suicide off a bridge in Luxembourg? Whose telephone number is on a pink piece of crumpled paper? Who is the girl in the porn film?

Jason Evans seeks the solution whilst on holiday visiting his brother Shaun in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. Undercover Detective Ernie Meyer and his assistant Gendarms Tammy Hammer are hot on the trail.

What is the meaning of an unusual tattoo? Who is the old man in a nursing home in Berlin? Why is a trip to Frankfurt so important? What is the secret language on the letter? Why is a Luxembourg tour guide involved?

Luxembourg & The Jeinesch Connection is David Robinson's first fictional novel which visits the seedy exploitive world of cabaret bars, the Luxembourg State secret police and the tunnels of the former fortress to uncover a secret that's been dormant for nearly sixty years."

This is, in many ways, one of the worse novels I have ever read. Ostensibly it's a detective story set in Luxembourg, which begins with the suicide of a porn-making stripper and concludes with the discovery of some Nazi gold. The twist that Robinson adds to the mix is that he has a character who solves the mysteries alongside the police.

What, on the surface, appears to be a mildly interesting plot that could allow for some intriguing set pieces is undone to a blistering degree by the sheer ineptitude of Robinson's writing. The civilian relies on nothing other then luck and coincidence to solve the plot (once would be forgivable but over and over and over again?). Every other female character is described as "stunning" without any further explanation and don't even begin to get me started on the dialogue - it's awful.

As a reviewer I am aware that it is too easy to take pot shots with no fear of reprisal, so do let me say that I have the utmost respect for Robinson for getting a novel printed - heck, he is on my bookshelf which is a lot more than I can lay claim to. However, respect aside - it does very much feel the like the first novel that the blurb tells me it is. Unfortunately for Robinson it feels like a first novel that an eleven-year-old may have come up with.

I bought this book just before we went to Luxembourg for a weekend. I found it very interesting and was able to see some of the places mentioned in the book which added to the visit.
