Previously I had another version of the Dowland lute songs. This improves on that one. The lute tabulature is clear and transcribing it to the guitar makes it easily accessible to the plucked instrument player, with directions to make your guitar play as a lute by suitable use of capos and different tunings.
How can one praise Dowland's songs enough. Each is no less than perfect, the part writing can stand by itself with out the songs, but with the songs it is divine. The lyrics are some of the best Elizabethan poetry, and yes, when it refers to dying with your loved one, it's not suicide they are refering to but to the culmination of a another form of activity.
