Healthy cooking is no big deal anymore: the Spirali transformes fruits and vegetables in just a few simple steps into spaghettis, spirals or slices, to use as basis for a vegetable salad, to cook, fry or to garnish your dishes with. This product brings out the best in your food and turns everybody into a vegetable fan. Hobbychefs and professionals, they all love the Spirali. And this is why: fine spaghettis, spirals and ultra-thin slices need less time in boiling water, steaming or frying - vitamins remain intact and energy is saved. Suitable for potatoes, carrotes, cucumbers, zucchini, cabbage, onions, celery, radish, beetroot, paprika, aubergine, apples and pears. But there are no limits to your imagination. By the way: the Spirali also handles firm cheese and sausages. Ultra-sharp blades and non-slip rubber feet guarantee safe working conditions. Product features: dishwasher-proof. 5.0 out of 5 stars Food is Fun Again!! 29 April 2009
Colour Name:Blue
This is a really fun piece of kitchen equipment. Good sturdy build and does everything it says on the box.

However, with hindsight, I wish I had bought the vertical Lurch Spiralo - but only because my kitchen is quite small and the horizontal Spirali takes up more worktop space than I expected. Also, it seems that the Spiralo spiralizes the whole width of the vegetable and doesn't waste the centre the way this model does.

So I will still give it 5 stars for performance and build, but personally, I think the Spiralo is probably a better (and later?) design.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant product. 19 Aug 2009
Colour Name:Blue
I wanted a machine that made veg spagetti and this is suberb. Ive mainly used corgettes, carrots and beetroot. It does that job brilliantly. Really easy to use and clean, but the blades are incredibly sharp so be warned. Although it takes a bit of space in the cupboard. The attachment and blades are within the unit, so quite compact. It is very solid and think it will last years of service. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good value, well made, great for raw foodies 9 Mar 2010
By RosP
Colour Name:Blue|Verified Purchase
I bought this after going on a Raw Food course. I think it's better made than the one they had at the cookery school and it does exactly the same job: long spaghetti-like threads of different thicknesses and curly spirals. You do lose the centre of the vegetable you are cutting - you are left with a perfect little stick - but you can slice these thinly or use them for dips or (as I do) eat while you cook! For this reason, large veg work better (there has to be enough of the vegetable to remove a 8mm core and still have something left to grate) so no good for those little finger carrots. The blades are easy to change and when not in use store in a convenient compartment beneath the unit. It does not stain, even with raw beetroot, and is easy to clean especially if you rinse it straight after use, before the food fibres have time to go sticky and get clogged in the blades. Lots of fun to use... I just couldn't stop turning things! I ummed and aaaed a lot before choosing this model over their vertical one but I think it's the right choice for me as I like that the food comes out at one side, not underneath, although the vertical one may be better for anyone short on storage space. I also bought the matching Lurch mandoline/slicer and am very pleased with it. Both good value products.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good idea bad design 15 April 2013
Colour Name:Cream / Green|Verified Purchase
This is a fantastic idea for a product, but feels flimsy, lightweight and poorly designed.

Although it work OK, and I won't complain about the food it produces, the razor sharp piece of metal that pinions the center of the vegetable, effectively cores whatever you are spiralling. This is fine for courgettes but for carrots, potatoes and anything else it's just wasteful and restricts the minimum diameter of the vegetables you can use. The vertical version of this product does not do this, I don't see why this one should.

Another restriction to the size of the vegetable is the rotating foot of the machine that holds the vegetables in place, the spikes are too widely spaced apart and simply will not hold narrower vegetables in place.

There's no need for the extra handle to slide the platform along, horizontal pressure as you turn the handle is enough, plus the machine isn't sturdy enough to stand up to much pressure.

The handle is set too low to the base of the moving platform, anyone with normal size hands is constantly rapping their knuckles against it.

It's a real shame as this is a brilliant way to prepare food. If I was to buy again I would get the cheapest version of the upright one available.

Someone should make a high quality stainless steel version that's properly thought through.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cool kitchen gadget! 27 May 2010
Colour Name:Blue
I saw a similiar product on "The great british menu" and desired to make my own vegetable spaghetti, so I bought the Lurch. The Lurch is slightly more cost effective as it does the job, but it does lack a "sturdy" feel. The rubber suctions help to stabilise it to my worktop, but I had some difficulty with larger root vegetables e.g. sweet potato and russets. Carrots worked like a dream but it did stain the white.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beware the chain reaction! 4 July 2012
By PeteH
Colour Name:Blue|Verified Purchase
I saw this product on BBC Saturday Kitchen programme and thought it would be novel and useful for salad making.
Then I Googled spirali recipes, and once I had filtered out the recipes using the pasta shapes called spirali, I found a lot of "raw food" recipes that used this product.
In a weird 'chain-reaction', having discovered how raw vegetarian food is so much better for us than cooking all the nutrients out of our food, this has lead me onto a whole new way of making and eating food. As a result I have now bought a juice extractor which I use every other day (veg and fruits) grow and juice wheat grass, have bought and started using a dehydrator and about 50% of our food so far is 'raw food'.
Or, you could just use it to make salads :) Using it to make courgette noodles to eat with a pasta sauce or to deep fry is terrific. Highly recommend it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Product 12 Mar 2012
Colour Name:Blue
I am glad I purchased this item. I never thought that I could eat raw sweet potato, but I did with the spirali and it tasted good. The product is sturdy, although it doesn't seem to stick to the surface very well. It is easy to assemble and easy to use and easy to clean. It is a great product and fun to use!
