Colour Name: Cool White
I've just installed seventeen of these Lumilife 5w GU10 spotlights in my kitchen and I'm really pleased with them. In a kitchen it's recommended that you have between 450 and 500 lumens per square metre and ideally they should be the cool white version (these lamps do come in a warm white version). These lamps have a 60 degree beam angle and a life expectancy of 50,000 hours. Think about that - that's five hours per day, every day of the year for 27 years. That's worth considering when you're thinking about the cost. These bulbs have the same light output as a GU10 60w halogen lamp - at 5w they're taking only 8% of the power which would be quite a saving over 27 years. My 17 spotlights are taking only 85w, the equivalent halogen lamps would be eating a massive one kilowatt of power.

So let's do some cost of ownership calculations here, over 27 years you could expect to replace a 60w halogen lamp maybe 12 times at around £2 a time that's £24. The equivalent LED lamp would cost you maybe £13. Over the same 27 years at 13p per KWh a 60w bulb would cost you £390 to run - the LED equivalent only £32. So over the life of the LED bulb you're looking at £414 Vs. £45- which is worth having.

Unlike fluorescent energy saving bulbs the light from these LED lamps is instant, no waiting for them to warm up and they stay cool because more of the energy is turned into light; not heat. Leave these on for an hour and you can still safely handle them.

So apart from the initial outlay which admittedly seems steep, I can see no downside to these bulbs at all. Safer, more reliable, cheaper to run and green enough to make you feel slightly smug.
