Product Description

Product Description

Lumie Bodyclock Advanced 2000
Wake up more easily and feel energised during the day
Lumie Bodyclock Advanced 2000
Many people suffer from decreased energy levels and low mood during the winter months
Why are Bodyclock dawn simulators so effective?

Lumie Bodyclock Advanced 200 wakes you up gradually with a simulated sunrise. The brightening light brings you more gently out of sleep, prompting your body to reduce the production of sleep hormones such as melatonin, while increasing the levels of hormones like cortisol that help you get up and go. This provides a fantastic start to the day for sufferers of SAD syndrome (seasonal affective disorder) and the winter blues, and helps anyone who is not naturally a morning person to feel brighter and more energetic first thing.

It is not just a nicer way to wake up. Waking to natural light every day resets your sleep/wake cycle and has been shown to boost your mood, productivity and energy levels throughout the day. Our physiological body clocks are aligned by sunrise and sunset. As most of us experience a mix of early starts, late nights, weekend lie-ins and sometimes travel disruption, our internal sleep rhythms are thrown into disarray. We feel tired and stressed trying to wake up for work, school or sports training. A dawn simulator device restores your body clock to run in time with your day, helping you feel more awake during the day and more ready for sleep at night.

Lumie Bodyclock Advanced 2000
Gradually increasing light simulates sunrise
Wake and fall asleep more easily

As well as the morning sunrise created by the halogen bulb, the glass covered Bodyclock Advanced 200 comes with a sunset feature that helps you unwind at night. Control the time it takes for both the sunrise and the sunset to find the pace that suits you best. When falling asleep a white noise setting helps to mask sounds that would otherwise keep you awake and there is a fade-to-nightlight option should you desire low light throughout the night.

The wake-up alarm includes a snooze function and a back-up beeper for added reassurance. It comes with an intelligent LCD digital display and the bright light is dimmable so that it can also be used like a normal bedside light. There is no need to worry about sleeping through the alarm should the power go off: the device comes with power failure back-up. Bodyclock Advanced 200 comes with a two-year guarantee.

Lumie Bodyclock Advanced 200 is a certified medical device

Bodyclock Advanced 200 is certified to the Medical Devices Directive EC93/42. It has been designed for a medical purpose, to help with SAD syndrome (seasonal affective disorder), winter blues and other physical difficulties with waking and sleeping. As a medical device it conforms to European standards and carries the correct CE mark. Lumie Bodyclock has been tested and proved effective through clinical trials, and comes with clear guidelines for correct medical usage.

Made by specialist light therapy inventors

When you purchase a dawn simulator (light alarm clock), make sure it comes from a specialist, experienced company. A real dawn simulator can cost a lot of money and you want to ensure that it actually works for you. Bodyclock Advanced 200 is made by Lumie, the Cambridge-based company who specialise in light therapy products – and nothing else. Lumie invented dawn simulator wake-up lights back in 1993. Working with the scientific community and gaining vital customer feedback over the years, they have developed the concepts into the best-selling Bodyclock range, as well as applying their specialist knowledge to create other devices for health issues such as SAD, jet lag, acne and hay fever. They now sell a full range of SAD light boxes, SAD lamps, light alarm clocks, acne lamps and hay fever treatment.

I bought one of these about two years ago. The wake-up function works very well and does help you to wake up feeling better in the morning. The big let down is the build quality! The buttons broke just after a year of use and the UK supplier wanted £25-ish pounds to repair. They told me that the button assembly can be difficult to remove. I opened up the case and removed them in just a few minutes, glued them, and reinstalled. Anyone who has one of these; don't push too hard on these buttons, they look like something out of an airfix kit and are of similar quality. The price tag of £99 pounds is on the high side and I doubt whether I will buy anything from Lumie again.
Update at 10/09/08 - Buzzer has stopped working some time ago, light flickers - as I said previously; VERY bad build quality!

What a disappointment. The idea of falling asleep as the light slowly fades away and waking up as it comes back on is absolutely fantastic. And, for the first few weeks, this product does exactly what it says on the tin. It's great. But...

A couple of months later, as other reviewers have said, the light goes mad and starts going on and off at all times. The whole thing fails and forgets to wake you up, leaving you tp sleep until 11. The beeper goes mad and rings at will. This is a brilliant product terribly built. Definitely not worth the £100.

I recently bought a Lumie bodyclock advanced after months of considersation. It is an expensive purchase and I wanted to be sure buying it was not a whim.

Having taken the leap, I can honestly say it is excellent. I hate waking to a dark room, with an irritating noise. The Lumie alarm clock wakes you with natural soft light and I find that I am waking feeling far brighter and ready to get up than normal.

The clock has a back up audio alarm (a gentle beep) but I have only needed this a couple a times. The clock can be set to have sunrise and sunset for either 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 45 minutes or 60 minutes. The sunset option gently dims the light to full darkness and also dims the digital read out on the clock.

The clock is simple to use, with clear straightforward instructions. You can have the clock either 24 or 12 hour. The advanced model also offers a security light that comes on at random times, a night light and 'white noise' which is supposed to aid light sleepers by disguising external noise.

The bulb is not a normal bulb (although a normal bulb can be used) and these can be bought direct from Lumie for less than a fiver each with free delivery.

I think this clock is really going to help keep the misery of crawling out of bed to go to work to a minimum and would highly recommend it.

Whilst it's a great idea, and waking up to gradually increasing light is nice, it's poorly executed. For me there are two significant problems. Read more
