Book Description

27 Nov 2012 Watersong Novels (Book 2)

Gemma had to disappear with Penn, Lexi and Thea after a night of incredible violence on the island. She can still barely come to terms with her new affinity with the ocean – and the siren powers that go with it. Now she’s been transformed, Gemma has no choice but to leave all she loves behind. She swears she won’t lose her humanity, but the call of the sea is maddening and compulsive.

Harper won’t give up on her missing sister. The search draws her closer than she’d like to bohemian Daniel, but she could really use his help. They’d almost given up, until a small news item tells of a horrific murder in a nearby beach town, and Harper thinks she’s found the deadly group. But can Gemma’s curse be reversed – and what if she doesn’t want to come home?

Praise for Amanda Hocking:‘A fast-paced romance … addictive’ Guardian, ‘Generated an excitement not felt in the industry since Stephenie Meyer or perhaps even J. K. Rowling’ The New York Times, ‘In terms of page-turning immediacy, they are unrivalled’ Daily Telegraph

Not as good as the first book as the story seems to dip and comes to a somewhat contrived ending. However, it's a classic three act series and book 2 is obviously a part of the 2nd act, meaning it's got less oomph to it. That said, I still enjoyed the book, and am still surprised that I am enjoying the series considering that this is not a genre I read, and was bought as part of going outside my reading comfort zone.

I'll still buy the next in the series as I am invested in it now.

The characters are great, the series story is good so this is definitely a series to buy if you want something a little different from the vampire, werewolf, zombie fiction, but it will still keep you satisfied to know that you've discovered a new creature in town - A Siren.

4.0 out of 5 stars A dark read 23 Jan 2014
I bought this book ages ago after reading Wake (review on my blog), I had been looking forward to getting stuck into the second instalment of The Watersong Series ever since but seeing as I had many MANY other reading commitments I just hadn't managed to get round to it.

It began with the aftermath of what had happened at the end of the previous book, it briefly recapped the main events so that I was able to pick up the storyline easily. As with the first book I have to say that it didn't fully hold my attention for the first half of the book, I found it very easy to put it down at that point because it felt rather slow. Towards the end it became much more exciting and held my interest completely so once again the book redeemed itself by the end.

One of my favourite moments was a road trip that involved Harper, Daniel and Alex - it was during this trip that I really felt like I got to know these characters on a deeper level. Another part that was particularly enjoyable for me was the bond between Harper and Gemma, they were so connected as sisters and I have a feeling that there may be more to this than meets the eye.

The storyline had a dark edge to it with a lingering sense of danger but this was lightened by a hint of romance, firstly between Gemma and Alex and more exciting, for me, between Harper and Daniel. Theirs was a slow building relationship that continuously teased me with `will they, won't they' moments.

This was a dark read with some lovely characters, I look forward to finding out what happens next!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lullaby - Amanda Hocking 20 Nov 2013

As was 'Wake', 'Lullaby' was crafted in the same fashion. Hooked to the end, I was desperate to see whether Gemna would go with the sirens. Great sequel to 'Wake'! ;)

3.0 out of 5 stars Still enjoyable 25 Oct 2013

Lullaby was an equally enjoyable read as book 1 Wake and we pick up where we left off. Gemma has accepted her fate as a siren and has joined Penn, Lexi & Thea as they leave Capri & the murder investigation behind. Gemma doesn't really want to go but promised the sirens so that they wouldn't harm Harper, Daniel or her boyfriend Alex. Harper is left behind to explain Gemma's disappearance to everyone, needless to say, her Dad is devastated and so is their Mother who barely has a grasp on her own life. So, Harper, Alex and Daniel become determined to find Gemma and bring her home....Regardless of the fact that they will be inciting the wrath of a trio of murderous sirens.
So I enjoyed this, both of the girls have been separated so the pov's are in different areas. Gemma is struggling with her new identity, she's been forced to be what she is and doesn't want to become a monster by murdering people to survive, so she tries to deny the way her body feels, starving it of the sea that calls to her and resisting the need to feed. She's still pretty much in the dark about a lot of things about being a siren but has help from the most unlikely source. Meanwhile, Harper has thrown herself into finding Gemma to bring her home so she doesn't have to go it alone, she won't give up & neither will Alex. I like Harper, I like that she is determined and driven, it's sort of like a swap of traits for the girls in the second book as Harper becomes focussed whilst Gemma loses hope, I like that their connection as sisters is strong and that there is determination not to just sit and accept things.

Having previously read Wake, I was desperate to read the second book in the series and it was just as exhilarating as Wake but a lot more gory. I will definitely be buying the next book in the series when it comes out.
