`Rockabye Baby : Metallica' provides various songs from Metallica's back catalogue reworked in lullaby form. Some tracks are more complete than others, whereas a few are mere refrains of the main riffs or signature parts of the song. You can generally work out most songs fairly quickly and although they are performed on glockenspiel, vibraphone, mellotron and other suitable instruments, they sound enough like Metallica's original song to keep adult listeners interested as well. The album is fairly short, but you wouldn't want too long an album if you're trying to soothe a baby off to sleep. Some of the tracks sound a little eery (although they wouldn't to a baby), if you know the original song it sounds unusual to hear the riffs of say `(Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth' on glockenspiel and it briefly reminded me of eery background music on some horror movies on a few tracks. One small note is that this is slightly over-priced for what it is, but if you love the band and want to introduce them to your kids then it's worth giving a go. The booklet has instructions and shapes to cut out to make a mobile for the babies cot as well, a neat addition to the package. Overall though this is a good album for those parents who want their babies to rock out from a young age, and to be honest who wouldn't? Worth a try if you want more unorthodox lullabies for you little ones.
