It is not be possible to verify whether the patterns work in this review, but it is an experienced arts worker and blogger of arts and crafts writing this, and, looking at the book aesthetically, considering the content overall, the information within plus the quality of that information, the book's layout, themes etc have arrived at a 4 star award as an all round indicator. Patterns are for sweaters, cardigans and jackets, vest tops and accessories including boots - all for little ones in the main, and there is a lovely scarf pattern for mum too. Classic knitting techniques such as cable knit, garter stitch and lots of pretty lace patterns feature and some traditional little baby jacket patterns i.e. Garter Stitch Jacket. The designer offers styles with large collars, and hoods, and almost all knits are in strong colours - not many pastels, but some nice neutral shades. Nature inspired knits it seems (leaves, trees and vines). Full page, full colour photography is all enhancing.

This book looks beautiful, and the pictures are really luscious. However, having knit up several of the patterns I can say that they knit up really small. You need to size up at least one size bigger if not more. In addition the patterns can be really tricky to follow, and there are some mislealding instructions which I think stem from it being translated from Danish. Once you overcome those difficulties then the patterns are beautiful, but I wouldn't recommend this book to a friend as I've had to rip back so many patterns and just ended up really frustrated. Not the most relaxing of knitting projects.

Have just knit Garter Stitch Cardigan and could not finish with 22 stitches on completion of back as the pattern finished on row 10 and I believe it should end on row 12 to decrease for the increased stitches in pattern. I also had 13 stitches on both sides at the finish instead of 12 as pattern stated.

Very happy with this lovely hardback book, items have traditional cables with a modern twist. Nice photos and clear instructions.

Like some of the other reviewers here I'm an experienced professional knitter and teacher who also writes patterns. Overall the designs are modern and well thought through (anyone who has tried to pull a sweater with a tight neckline over the head of a protesting baby will love the wide necklines here!) However, as other knitters have already noted there are a number of errata with some of the patterns. For example:

Stay-On Ribbed Boots contain the following errors:

Sole Row 5 should read K2, inc 1, K3 (not K1 as stated), inc 1, K2 (9 st)
Sole Row 9 should read K2, inc 1, K5 (not K3 as stated), inc 1, K2 (11 st)

The photo illustrating the design on P120 doesn't seem to match the pattern. The photo suggests fewer rows were knitted before starting the decreases (6 rather than the 8 stated). I also used the double-sole option, which is rather bulky and end result resembles a Moon Boot rather than the dainty bootie shown.

I truly hope this book runs to a second edition as the designs are beautiful and would be great for developing knitters to expand their skills. However some serious proof reading and pattern testing would make the book so much better.

This book is full of lovely patterns, all of which I'd consider making. The photos are well styled and it is possible to see the garments from a range of angles. However, having started one pattern - the easy cable sweater - I think there may be errors, which as a fairly novice knitter has put me off embarking on further projects.

Essentially, the tension shown in the book for this pattern is larger than that of the recommended yarn, despite the suggested needle size being smaller than what is recommended by Rowan. This results in the garment being much smaller than stated - not great when you are knitting as a gift! At first I thought it was me but my experienced knitting tutor agrees that what is shown in the book defies logic.

I'd be keen to make more of the garments as they really are lovely looking but would encourage the author to recheck the patterns and post corrections where necessary.

I have a big family and do a lot of knitting for the children. This book provides a large number of different patterns.
