THE REAL SECRET started out as a novel about women using different kinds of self help, but by the time I'd done all the research I realised that I wanted to write my own self help book. I was keen to debunk some of the fantasies that a lot of the self help market promotes at the moment (no, I don't like a lot of the empty promises of "Law of Attraction" writers) and give readers something real, solid and that really worked. I was lucky enough to find Annabel Shaw, a social psychologist and radiologist to write the book with me. In her work with cancer patients, she had come across a number of women who had tried to heal themselves with the the help of Law of Attraction practitioners; when this hadn't worked they came for medical help - only it was often too late.
Annabel and I developed our "simple, sensible, scientifically supported self help" programme and turned it into THE REAL SECRET's 12 steps, which take you through the most important aspects of life, forming good emotional (and some physical) habits and gaining control of your fears, finances, friends, family and relationships. We have taken on the best of what really works from our own experience and expertise, along with positive and social psychology, neuroscience, coaching and theapeutic practices.
