As a tourism advertisement for Louisiana, where filming took place, The Lucky One makes the most of a scenic state. As an opportunity for Zac Efron (High School Musical) to prove his acting mettle, it's less successful. On his third tour of duty in Iraq, Efron's Sgt. Logan Thibault finds a photograph of a pretty blonde that reads "keep safe" on the back. After a series of close scrapes, he credits his survival to the memento. Upon his release, Logan retrieves his German shepherd and sets out for North Carolina (it's never clear how he figures that out as a destination). When he finds Beth (Taylor Schilling), who runs a kennel with her grandmother (Blythe Danner), he doesn't know how to tell her about the picture, so he takes a job working with the dogs, and befriends her son (Riley Thomas Stewart), a chess prodigy, while inspiring jealousy in her hotheaded ex-husband, Keith (Jay R. Ferguson, who looks more like a marine than Efron). The climactic storm at the end provides the opportunity for Logan to come clean and for Keith to prove he isn't a complete loser, allowing romance to bloom between the central couple. In drawing from the novel by Nicholas Sparks, Shine's Scott Hicks offers a picture-postcard romance that feels too much like a Lifetime movie. Though Efron, who made a stronger impression in Me and Orson Welles, never overacts, his recessive performance renders Logan more opaque than necessary. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Zach Effron plays Logan a US Marine who while on a tour of duty in Iraq sees a picture on the ground. When he picks it up he notices that it's a photograph of a beautiful young woman. As he is looking at it a bomb goes off where he had just been standing and he realises that the photo saved his life. Logan decides to find the woman in the photo so that he can thank her for saving his life.
The story is sweet and predictible and there weren't really any surprises but I still enjoyed it.
I'm not usually a Zach Effron fan but loved him in this. This film probably wouldn't appeal to Zach's younger fans as it does feature quite a few love scenes and I must admit that these were somewhat spoilt for me by a group of young girls who kept laughing whenever these came on.
I really enjoyed this film and can't wait to see it on dvd.

I'm a fan of Nicholas Sparks films and novels, I was not disappointed when I saw The Lucky One at the cinema, it is a chick flick so if you are not a fan of them then you probably won't like it. My husband who is happy to watch chick flicks too, thought this film was good and so we will be buying the dvd when availble.

If you are a fan of writer Nicholas Sparks (Message in a Bottle, The Notebook, Dear John etc.) you will not be disappointed in this film. Zac Efron is excellent in his role as a US Marine. A real tear jerker, even my other half has watched this film a second time with me as he enjoyed it first time around! The Lucky One is an excellent film that now sits firmly on my 'favourite films' list...well worth watching.

There was something lacking in this film. I expected it to be similar to The Notebook and Dear John as they all share the same Author but there was a lack of depth in the storyline and in the relationship between the two main characters. It wasn't believable and that's down to Zac Efrons lack of enthusiasm/emotion in his role. Some good scenes and good song choices played throughout the film but I was slightly disappointed considering I had waited quite a while to see this film.
I enjoyed the film 'Safe Haven' much more.

So heartwarming, another Nicholas Sparks master piece, not quite as dark as the book but translated well to film. The highs and lows of life, war and of course love, living in the good old USA.

The Lucky One
Great film for everyone to watch. I would highly recommend this product as you can watch it anywhere you are because of it being a triple play. This DVD is highly worth watching.

I haven't watched this film . . . .
