Doris is so good in this film she makes you smile the whole time, and her comic timing is great. As usual. She is the best actress to ever hit the movie screen so this film is a hit or course. It may be cheesy at times but its good anyway, and its lovely to hear songs from Sammy Fain, the composer of Calamity Jane, as some of the songs used in 'Lucky Me' are in the stage version of Calamity Jane, so if you want to hear Doris sing 'Love you Dearly', as she would have done anyway if they hadn't taken it out of the film version, then buy it. Its really fun and lovely! The opening scene is the best bit..GO DORIS!

Lucky Me - the movie 24 Dec 2009

This is not a noteworthy musical. Indeed, it is saved only by the singing and dancing of Doris Day. Phil Silvers is on hand with his loud and zany humour. Robert Cummings is his suave sophisticated self. But the plot, such as it is, about a theatrical group stranded in Miami, is feeble and the only real entertainment here are the songs: 'Lucky me', and the 'Superstition song' which opens the film, the jolly comedy dance number 'Bluebells of Broadway',the lovely 'I speak to the stars', and several others, rather less memorable. They were composed by Sammy Fain (music) and Paul Francis Webster (lyrics). This is one for DD fans only.

LUCKY ME,1954,colour,stars DORIS DAY & ROBERT CUMMINGS with PHIL SILVERS, EDDIE FOY,Jr, NANCY WALKER, MARTHA HYER.
This is in my opinion one of Doris's great comedy musicals, and as Candy Williams, she is just fantastic.
Watch the opening few minutes as Candy[Day],where she sings,"THE SUPERSTITION SONG" while strolling down sidestreets
amongst a series of hilarious near mis-haps[you can imagine only DD doing these scenes-and she does so brilliantly].
Candy is a struggling performer, who has lots of ways to keep bad luck from crossing her path. Then one fine day soon proves
to be her luckiest, and as Candy and her stranded threatrical entertainers and friends,Flo,Hap,Duke[N.Walker,P.Silvers,Eddie Foy,Jr],
meet Dick[R.Cummings]who is at first in love with the lovely Lorraine[M.Hyer]or so she thinks. Dick eventually chooses Candy to be the
lead singer/dancer in his new threatre play that he is working on,but he has competition from Lorraine, whose rich father is the man who
has the finances. At a party the whole situation is sorted out. A very entertaining and fun comedy musical, with plenty of lively song and
dance numbers.
Regards,Bill.
