"Leif the Lucky, son of Erik the Red, discovered America five centuries before Christopher Columbus. Had the Viking's lines of communication with their home bases been stronger would history might have developed differently in several ways."

Musically it certainly comes from a different vein than "Captain Lockheed", Produced by Eno it satirises the Beach Boys with "The Lay of the Surfers" and gives Country and Western a good ribbing with "Moonshine in the Mountains".

If all you want is a heavy rock album, look elsewhere. It's a pure Bob Calvert view on Prohibition in America, subtler in its jabs to the establishment, but an excellent piece of work non-the less.

Brilliant 31 Jan 2002
Format:Audio CD
Calvert is one of the most under-rated musicians around and this has everything -- at least for my taste -- Calvert, Eno and Moorcock together -- all of them very quirky, individual talents, coming together to make an album like no other. Moorcock's horrible banjo in Moonshine, the pure fun of Bar-Bar-Bar-Bar-bar-i-an, all sending up
American music genres while at the same time showing a clever understanding of American history. Enough to make you laugh AND cry. But
a brilliant, unique album. Well worth adding to your collection.

Top album, certainly different to Captain Lockheed but none the worse for that, Robert Calvert with a big smile on his face. Not exactly heavy metal but then he never really was.
