The content of this CD is excellent, of course, as any fan of Mapp and Lucia will know. It contains plenty of gentle cattiness and snobbery and one-up-womanship and will delight fans.
The box it comes in is elegant with an attractive cover. Ms Margolyes reads very well, with a range of voices for the characters.
However, a few points leave this just short of perfection. To return to Ms Margolyes: I am not quite sure that she realises this is a comedy - her reading is a little solemn and could do with a lighter touch. The second point is that it is abridged, and for those who know the books well the gaps will, of course, show.
My main quibble is with the presentation. There is no list of CD tracks, so it's not possible to chose to listen to a particular episode or chapter. The only way to listen is in 3 one hour chunks (one per CD in the box). This is all well and good if you have a whole afternoon to spare, but if you simply wanted a chapter to go with a quick cup of tea then the only thing is to make your own listing of track numbers and contents.
But these are quibbles, as I say. In general if you love Mapp and Lucia then this is a lovely way to spend time curtain twitching and marketing in Tilling and Riseholme.
