Review

"The absurdism of a Lear or a Lewis Carroll refracted through the noir novels of Derek Raymond. Great stuff."
--WILL SELF, October 2009

Once you have read Lubin Tales, you will almost certainly spot glimpses of King's micro-fictions in the world around you. This is a book which you will read and want to reread - it would be a perfect gift for anyone with an unorthodox imagination, an irreverent sense of humour and an interest in "intercontinental dubious intent".
--Alice Revel - Runninginheels.co.uk, November 2009

Product Description

Welcome to a world of small town debauchery and intercontinental dubious intent . . .

Lubin Tales is a 64-page hardback, pocket-sized collection of beautifully illustrated 'micro-fictions' - short stories and musings by artist and performer Gerry King. Surreal, playful and romantic the stories are woven together from various locations and time frames; an abandoned 1947 V-12 Lincoln automobile waits for a history in a French wood, British seaside resorts are portrayed with renewed love and nostalgia. A host of characters tease and entertain; the fabulous Pauls, one a continental hairdresser, the other a 1950s welterweight boxer, plus the promenade-prancing Poodle Faker and the deliciously deviant Stealerant. Each page is a visual delight, colour throughout with graphic illustration and photography.

From the Publisher

These tales benefit from being read aloud in a celebratory fashion, preferably to your loved one. However, much joy can be derived from the comfort of singular recitation.

From the Back Cover

Through the medium of words and pictures allow yourself to be cuddled by stories from a dark past reality.

Welcome to a world of small town debauchery and intercontinental dubious intent.

About the Author

GERRY KING is a writer, photographer and performer. Born in London, his first ever foray into writing and publishing was a three-page carbon copy magazine made when he was in care during the early 1970s. Until the early 1990s Gerry carried out extensive research in subjective malfeasance, experiencing a wide range of colourful environments and characters from secure government institutions to seaside winter lets, city squats and international hotels. He comes from the old school of battered Transit vans and fading walnut dashed predatory Jaguars with big boots.

I want to make memories with you.
I considered myself the personification of 1950s utility furniture - wardrobes and chests of drawers made from wooden frames of decommissioned Mosquito dive-bombers.

I always wanted a china cabinet, a shiny, mirrored curio-cuddler from a retro shop in Camden Lock. Cosseting a sufficient elegance of whatnots, the evidence of my lonely travels.

Please let me make memories with you.
