I bought this guide by chance before going out to Scotland for a brief 5 days vacation. I had been in Edinburgh before but just for few days and never bounced into a really great pub. I liked the beers (cask ales) and I love scotland in general, but having spent just few days in its capital I never really had the opportunity to find a great place to drink.

Even if this time I spent agian just two days in edinburgh before start touring the highlands, thanks to this guide I found a few great pubs. The author really knows how a five stars (or a five dogs, as the pubs are reated in this guide) should be: friendly, quite old, with good people, a cosy atmosphere and a few good ales. The pub are pictured in enough detail, the rating system is intuitive and good pub with cask ales are highlighted. Descriptions are funny and sometimes even compelling.

If you like to explore edinburgh pubs I really advise you to buy this guide, which is a real bargain.

Luath Edinburgh and Leith Pub GuideThis work is well-nigh unique: a pub guide with pretensions to be a work of literature. Besides giving an accurate overview of Edinburgh's best pubs, the guide is humorous, quirky and informative. You can spend many a happy hour planning pub crawls in the various areas of Edinburgh described within. In addition, you will return to this book again and again just for the pleasure of reading it. A must-have for the tourist and a revelation for the native.

You may know someone who likes Real Ale, it could be a friend, a brother, a sister, partner, wife or husband. Invite him or her to Edinburgh Waverley ans within 200 yd from the station you could be supping you first pint in The Halfway House! Parents, your son or daughter may be about to start at University in Edinburgh, this little book may be the most studied book they'll ever use! Thirsty work being a student!
