4.0 out of 5 stars ...heavy metal love..., 24 April 2009

Hands up if you don't know the name Herman Frank. Right. You, you and you, get the hell out of my heavy metal class. You're a disgrace. After all, this is the man who played a vital role in the Teutonic metal masterpieces by Accept, like "Restless And Wild" and "Balls To The Wall". He also spent some time with Victory and Moon'doc and, now, has finally released his first solo album, a quarter of a century into his career. Now I'm not going to say it was worth the wait, because that would just be stupid. But it is an absolutely fantastic slab of old school heavy metal.

He's brought along some fellow Victory and Accept alumni, in the shape of singer Jiotis Parachidis and drummer Stefan Schwarzmann as well as Peter Pilch from Running Wild, and straight from the off, we're firing straight into classic metal territory. It's an absolute gem from top to bottom, full of melodic tunes, powerful riffing, and top notch performances from the whole band. Herr Frank also has an excellent production pedigree having twiddled knobs for the likes of Saxon, Messiahs Kiss, Rose Tattoo and Molly Hatchet, and he's done a bang up job on his own album.

Some special praise must go to Jiotis Parachidis who puts in a performance that in days of yore, would have seen him set atop the metal vocalists podium along some of the eighties greats. He (and the band) are at their best on the opening track 'Moon II' and the mellower, but equally brilliant 'Kill The Thing'. However, there isn't any song that has you reaching for the skip button, only the repeat one. Metal the way it should be. Absolutely brilliant.

5.0 out of 5 stars A heavy metal wrecking ball !!, 9 May 2009
By Nikiforos V. Skoumas - Published on Amazon.com
This is the debut solo album of German guitarist Herman Frank. Although Frank's first claim to fame came as a member of iconic German band "Accept" in 1983 he arguably became synonymous with his personal band "Victory" while a fair amount of journalists and musicians regard him as the gold standard of power/speed metal guitarists.

Logically speed/power fans would expect "Loyal to none" to honor his previous works, hence putting out an album in the "Accept" vein. That is partly true as "Loyal..." is indeed a mixture of Accept and Victory only turned up to eleven!

In all honesty this is heavier, louder and infinitely more aggressive than "Accept" or "Victory". Herman unleashes the wildest riffs and melodies he has ever come up with; Stefan Schwarzmann wages wars on his drum set throughout the album, while bass player Peter Pichl seals this "no nonsense" rhythm section/engine. Still the real surprise probably comes with lead vocalist Jiotis Parcharidis ("Human Fortress") a prodigy in his own right whose endless passion and tireless aggression make him the edge of the spear called "Loyal to none".

Is this better than Accept? Dare I say it... yes simply because it is heavy, melodic, passionate and aggressive, and above all youthful! If I did not know any better I would have thought that the band are in their early 30s much like their singer.

All songs on "Loyal to none" are power dynamites but if one is qualified to cause the listener a heart attack that's "7Stars" (track 2).
This is so refreshing a debut that it deserves to be played louder than loud!

"PowerPlay" UK magazine (issue 107) marks this album with 8/10 commenting: "Loyal to none immediately sets itself up as one of the most powerful metal albums to emerge from the German scene this year."

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Classic Metal, 12 July 2011

Vintage axeman Herman Frank from Victory and Accept delivers heavy metal the way it's meant to be.
Darker and heavier than Accept, despite being joined by Accept drummer Stefan Schwarzmann, this album yields caustic guitar riffs and powerful vocals (from Jioti Parcharidis). Peter Pichl (Nektar, Running Wild) on bass and Herman's wife Martina on backing vocals round out the group. If you enjoy traditional heavy metal then you'll love this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Classic Metal in 2009, 2 Jan 2010
By Felixrox - Published on Amazon.com
Our former Accept axeman has done well...classy traditional metal all around. Nothing terribly flashy, it's just a great collection of vibrant upbeat songs, no ballads, with nice tasty melodic lead guitars. If you like old Accept & just well crafted music, this is for you. Some highlight tracks would be the opener Moon II, Father Buries Son, Welcome to Hell & Down to the Valley.
