Nearly a great bag. Except the Glide lock broke before I'd even used the bag.
on 3 February 2014
Received this last week. Great bag, it's really big, which is what I need for taking my gear on landscape shoots and smaller wedding shoots. All good so far. Got a shoot tomorrow, so this evening I'm packing everything away in the bag, then tried to adjust the glide lock to fit my carbon fibre tripod. The glide lock snapped and burst off the bag. Raging. This should not happen on a new bag, let alone a bag costing this much. The plastic part which clips over the runner has actually snapped, meaning I can't refit it. Other than that the bag is ideal for my needs. I had arranged to have the bag returned, but I've bodge a fix that I'm happy with. There are two loops for securing additional attachments right at the top of the glide lock area. I've slid the snap shut attachment through these loops and can secure the tripod at the top of the bag. Not ideal as I can't adjust the height of the attachment, but my tripod is small and lightweight, it's unlikely I'll need to move the attachment any lower.
The other thing that is poor is the way the bad is divided at the bottom section. You can fit a second DSLR at the bottom, but the dividers cannot be used to properly and securely create a secure fit around the sides of the camera. There's not cloth material for attaching the Velcro along the bottom edge of the bag, it's just smooth nylon. Nice and padded, but the bottom compartment is way too wide for a dslr. I've managed to use the padding to secure the camera, but it means the bottom right and left outer compartments are really small and nowhere near big enough to accommodate anything useful.
So far I'm disappointed at the poor design noted above, and I shouldn't have to bodge a repair to be able to use all the features. But it's about as big a rucksack as you can get on the market, so I'll keep it. But it's so far the worst design I've bought (I own/have owned 5 other Lowepro camera bags).
Last but not least, I originally bought this bag from Calumet, and returned it as it had burst stitching along the seam of the grey nylon seen at the back of the glide lock section. The bag was on display and either a member of staff or customer had tried to adjust the glide lock and burst the stitching in the process. I returned the bag to the shop, got a full refund the following day and bought one off Amazon. Mine was fine when it arrived, but the glide lock burst before I've even used the bag. Seems to be a really awful piece of design, I wouldn't be surprised to see this 'feature' dropped from future bag designs as the return rate for this must wreck any profit margin for Lowepro.
