Excellent day bag,
By a casual reviewer "gm" (surrey, uk) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lowepro Versapack 200AW - Black (Electronics)
I have owned a Lowepro Slingshot 200AW for a few years but it saw only rare use because I always got a fair bit of pain from all the weight on one shoulder.
This bag has been the perfect replacement since it provides even better quick access to your camera (both sides of the bag), You can open up the whole bottom section for easy loading, and is more comfortable generaly practical. The fabric is tough and workmanship appears very good so far. Because the padded sections unzip as they do you can make them flat, and once you take the camera section pads out you can fold the whole lot up and pop in your suitcase taking up very little room. Great for me as I can use my large bag to take camera kit plus book, phone etc on the plan and have a smaller day bag to use once on holiday! Top section: Loads of room, with a flexible fabric design allowing you to accomodate odd shaped items and handy pouches under the flap for whatever given additional room Camera Section Can just about hold 2 Canon XXd cameras with standard sized lenses attached (i had a 10-22mm & a 24-104mm on), with the lenses facing down and nearest the openings. This leaves a gap in the middle for a fairly copact spare lense. This camera section could do with being just half an inch larger to make carrying 2 cameras (without grips still) easy rather than a bit of a squeeze, but it is a smart compact design. Tripod 2 ways of storing - strap it accross the bottom - straps are built in - Strap it verticaly using the fabric rest at the bottom and bucked tap at the top Both excellent, although the second better if you are in town and don't want to clobber people. All camera backpacks should have these features - not enough do! Comfort & straps etc A long day walking arround a city with 2 cameras, 3 lenses and 2 bottles of water and I was very happy - no tired back. Only downside is that the waist strap isn't padded - 2 small pads would really help here and reduce rubbing. Everything is adjustable of course so can accomodate most people i would think. AW protection Well, it is there and the cover is fine and stopped the rain I have been caught in BUT the cover is mounted at the bottom so when you try to hook it over the top of the bag it just slips back down as the straps are directly at the top - it can't loop over. This means a the very top gets a bit wet and after a while will seap down. I am going to sew a loop onto the cover at the top and use the tripod straps to hold it on. Conclusion I think this is one of the best camera bags on sale. It is perfect for amature and semi pro users who want something to carry their daily needs descreetly. It looks like a rucksack, not a camera bag, has alomost all the features you could want (padded waist strap please) and has enough room for 2 cameras or a good range of glass plus your lunch and a bit of shopping - brilliant!

Does What It Says,
By
This review is from: Lowepro Versapack 200AW - Black (Electronics)
First time I've brought a backpack for a camera and chose this after spending days & days looking on the net.
Glad I did, it does exactly what it says for me. The bottom area holds my Lumix G1, spare lens, charger & small video camera easily and I love the fact it has a tripod holder AND rain cover built in, why don't all backpacks have this? Have only used it once on a long day at a game of cricket but very pleased with it - Only drawback is the top compartment needs both hands to close and is a little fiddly as a result. All in all I'm glad I ended up choosing this one.

The Versa is Very Versatile - Excellent Bag,
By Happy Snapper (Cambridge, UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lowepro Versapack 200AW - Black (Electronics)
Love this bag. Like most photographers, amateur such as myself or pro, over the years I've collected a large number of different carriage solutions, from waist packs to Billinghams. They all have their own merits and uses, but for me, this Versapack has really filled a specific need since I bought it in October 2010. As such, after six months of very solid use, now is the time to comment on its merits.
This was bought as a concession to fatherhood, as days out now mean camera plus toddler kit. Normal camera bags simply don't cut it for me at the moment, so the trick was to look for something which can take camera and other essentials safely on the plane or train. This bag is like a little tardis. The camera section in the base takes my Nikon D700, 24/120 f4 lens, and 50mm f1.4. I can also jam in the SB600 or 700 if I try, but the D700 with 50mm is so good in low light that I don't bother to take a flash for holidays or weekends away. I can also fit the camera with the 16-35 mounted - so plenty of good, usable, re-configurable space in the base. Old photo half & half packs always suffered for me because of the lack of room for personal kit, and it is here where Lowepro has got the Versa 200 so right as the top half of the bag has excellent space for pretty much everything you could imagine. Toddler cups, sandwiches, a jumper (or even two jumpers if they stuff down small, a stuff sack can help this) travel wallet for passports etc, Kindle - in short, this bag is plenty big enough to be a great carry-on. My Versa has flown 24 times since October 2010, both for work and personal reasons, thus needing some re-configuring for each mission. Every time it was worked brilliantly. No problem in carry-on size for proper airlines such as BA/Lufthansa etc - also no problem for decent low-cost carriers such as easyJet. Ryanair would probably fine you a grand or two - but as I will not fly with them I've not tested the Versa on one of their so-called 'services' yet. Also - this is a very comfortable rucksack to wear, probably one of the best I've ever worn, and when you are using this in a hot climate that is a real bonus. I never feel sweaty or constrained wearing the Versa, no matter how full or empty it is. Much of this is I think down to the lack of un-necessary padding on the shoulder straps which is a real bug-bear for me on other rucksacks. Lowepro has just got this so very right. For holidays, this then doubles also as a small beach bag too - so you will certainly get your money's worth out of it! And that is the final point. It is an absolute bargain at around £60. Buy one and love it.
