4.0 out of 5 stars Good Quality Bag with Plenty of Space, 25 Jan 2007
By Klaus (Manchester, UK) - See all my reviews
I've had this bag for a couple of months now and have been very pleased with it. I'm continually adding to my camera accessories, so I wanted something that wasn't going to be full straight away. The bag easily takes my Nikon D50 with an 18-70mm lens attached and I there is room to allow a bigger lens.

In addition to the main camera area there are five other compartments. These are all accessed through the same zip and they allow you to store 3-4 lenses as well as a flash or other accessories. The walls of the compartments are attached by velcro so you can adjust them to fit your needs. There is an extra zip compartment at the top of the bag that can take more accessories or some snacks :) Another feature of the bag is an all-weather cover. This is kept hidden in a pocket at the bottom of the bag and is very useful when the heavens open.

The bag only has one shoulder strap and another strap that connects over your chest. This allows you to disconnect the chest strap and flip the bag round to your front giving you quick access to your camera. Extra straps around the main compartment allow you to just open the camera area to stop everything else in the bag spilling out. This is a great system, although I did find the bag got a little uncomfortable when wearing it on a longer walks. As a result of this I have opted to get a smaller bag (Lowepro Topload Zoom Mini) to allow me to just carry my camera with its attached lens. This I can then put in a proper rucksack for longer walks. I still think the Slingshot is a great bag and I now use it when I'm going out with the intention to shoot and I want all my lenses.

5.0 out of 5 stars Practical and high quality camera bag, 28 April 2007
By Dr. Simon G. Williams "simon@svpworld.com" (United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
(...) The bag is very well made, and has a sturdy quality feel. It is also surprisingly light when unloaded and comes with a limited lifetime warranty from Lowepro.
There are several compartments, the main central compartment for camera and lenses which opens in two stages. By releasing the two safety clasps you can then unzip the cover all the way and reveal the inner compartments. All dividers can be removed and positioned using very strong velcro, so you can choose whether to have single large compartments on either side or divide them into two. So what can you get in there?
Well my Canon EOS400D with battery grip and a 24-105mm L lens complete with lens hood fits snugly into the central compartment. Either side I then have the 50mm f/1.4 lens, 10-22mm EFS wide angle lens and then either add my 100mm f/2.8 macro lens or instead several cokin P filters, holder and bulb blower. Although you can leave the hood on the wide angle lens, I prefer to remove it and store it in the top external compartment. There's also a pocket in the flap that sits behind the camera body when closed with space for memory cards and other flat items. Best to store spare batteries in the other compartments though with the 24-105 lens attached.
You then zip up the flap and attach the two clasps which prevent the flap opening past the rear of the camera. This allows you to remove the camera from what is effectively the side of the bag, but actually faces up when you swing the bag around on your shoulder. To get to the lenses I advise you hold the bag before unzipping the remainder of the flap and preferably do it with the bag off your shoulder.
There is a generous top compartment which has space for my 580EX flash unit in its case, an inner pouch to hold the flash extension cable and enough space also for the wide angle lens hood. Of course if you dont need to take a big flash like the 580ex, you could probably put another small camera in there (e.g. my powershot S3) or other ancillary items.
Finally the front compartment or pocket is nicely padded and has space for battery, small torch, cleaning cloth and other small accessories. At the bottom of the bag is a tuck away rain cover (nice touch) that can be pulled out and fits snugly over the bag to prevent it getting too wet. There's an additional strap which also tucks away into the bag if you don't need to use it, this stability strap can be pulled around your waist and then attaches to the main strap to prevent the bag swinging around too much when say climbing or hiking.
Overall this is a great bag, at first I was indecisive whether to get the larger 300AW or this one but now I'm happy that the 200 offers enough space for all my major kit but without becoming too bulky. I guess you would have trouble with longer telephoto lenses, though as I said the 24-105 L fits nicely so most compact zooms should also.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of space and very comfortable, 17 Dec 2007
I have had this Slingshot 300 now for a couple of months and love this bag.

The bag is exceptionally comfortable, with or without the waist strap being used. I have been out for a 5 hour walk, fully laden, and didn't know I had it on for the majority of the time.
The slingshot feature is very handy and means you can stash the camera away if the weather is not so good, or use it as an impromptue chest high table when you want to change lenses, which I have found very useful when in the very flat and wet fens!

You can also swing the bag round in the forward position and use it as a prop to steady the holding of a long lens while standing. I tried this with an IS 400mm + 2X teleconverter in blustery conditions and it probably gave me about an extra 2-3 stops as I was struggling to get a clear image, with no other support around. You can't do that with a normal bag!

There is loads of space and it is all useable and configurable via the 5 velcro panels. I currently have a 40D with 100-400 attached in the main compartment, plus a large lens hood, 2X converter, 2 other lenses, a spare body a pair of binoculars and a basic first aid kit in the main compartment, plus there is room for more! The front pouch is more than enough space for spare batteries, utility knife, some flash cards, filters, remote control and other bits an pieces.
The top compartment is big enough for sandwiches and a light waterproof. Not big enough for a tripod though, which is a shame.
There are a couple of loops to thread a tripod through though but it swigns a bit too much especially when swinging through to the font. There is a nother loop at the bottom to loop a jacket or fleece through.

Build quality is great and a subtle design which does not attract attention. Also comes with waterproof cover.

Not sure how I previously coped without it.
