The Lowepro Flipside 300 AW is a large-capacity outdoor backpack for serious photographers. It delivers an ideal solution in terms of comfort, protection and organisation for a high specification of photography kit. This award-winning series offers outdoor adventure and sports shooters a mix of features that make it easy to carry, move, access and capture the images they love.

Body-side access

The Flipside series of bags provides body-side access. Photography equipment can only be accessed via the zipped panel on the reverse of the backpack and so it keeps gear close to you and extra secure whilst on the move. With the rucksack on your back, the main compartment cannot be unzipped without removing it. Also, photographers are regularly in and out of their bags, often having to put the dirty side straight back onto their backs. The body-side access avoids this and keeps both the back panel and shoulder straps clean. Also, the waistbelt and shoulder strap construction mean that this backpack can be ‘flipped’ around while being worn making it an exceptional choice for secure and quick access in a backpack. The added security and convenience of the Flipside system make it a firm favourite amongst professional and enthusiast photographers alike.

Perfect for pro kit

The roomy and padded camera compartment provides protection for gear and the adjustable divider system makes for easy customisation. The Velcro dividers can simply be removed or relocated anywhere within the bag to fit the kit you require it to carry. This Flipside 300 AW has a large capacity meaning it can protect, store and carry a large telephoto lens up to 300mm f/2.8. As a guide the Flipside 300 AW could carry a Pro DSLR with lens attached, 1-3 extra lenses or 2 lenses and a flash, accessories, tripod and personal items. On the outside of the bag there is also a little orange icon which signifies the Hideaway Tripod Mount system. This simply pulls out from its hidden pocket and can secure a tripod or monopod to the outside of the backpack for easy access and carrying.

Superior comfort

When full to the brim the Flipside 300 AW may be pretty heavy. The contoured shoulder strap with padded waist belt evenly distributes weight and provides exceptional comfort whilst wearing. The adjustable sternum straps help you to keep the shoulder straps where you want them. The ability to swivel the bag around and access whilst still wearing it mean that it is both convenient and comfortable to carry.

Other features

An additional front zippered, storage compartment includes space for a tablet and provides quick access to cables, adaptors, small accessories and personal Items. Built-in memory card pockets within the bag offer quick access and storage of extra memory, vital when you are out and about. Stretchy mesh pockets on the sides can hold water bottles and snacks with ease. If all that space isn’t enough then the SlipLock attachment loops mean you can increase the bags carrying capacity by easily connecting compatible cases, pouches and bags (sold separately). The patented, built-in All Weather AW Cover protects gear from rain, dust and sand and tucks away when not in use.

This bag is well made, seems to be very water resistant - after an hour's walk in the rain with it on my back my ciggie papers were bone dry, and they were in the outer pocket; which has several useful sections. The main zip location is well placed as an anti-theft device, opening to reveal velcro-attached padded dividers giving versatile sizes of individual compartments for your kit and a velcro'd zipped bag for smaller items. Despite the manufacturers information it can store a very big lens even when attached to a standard size SLR - I use a Sigma 150-500 which is a snug fit, leaving enough room for a few more lenses, etc.
This bag can serve as hand luggage for short-haul flights and will fit inside long-haul flight luggage, and indeed a motorbike top box! It's comfortable as a backpack with good padding, and has a good handle on the top too.
    Thoroughly recommended!

This is an excellent product which fits my requirements perfectly. For security the backpack can only be opened when its removed from your back. I have stored easily, a Canon DSLR 450D with a Tamron 70mm to 300mm lens fitted. There is lots of adjustment within the compartment for extras. In the same bag I have space for the standard Canon 18mm to 55mm lens and I have a Sony TRV950 video camera in there too. There is still space for a small compact digital camera like a Canon G7 or G9. The upper removable bag inside has enough space to carry a small panasonic video camera. However it can carry food or accessories. Externally there is a water bottle carrier and a neat arrangement for carrying a tripod vertically centre outside. The side pocket is fitted with compartments for pen, memory cards and a small notepad. It was not clear to me prior to buying this backpack what the strap arrangements were. As it turns out there are two comfortable sholder straps, a waist strap and a sternum strap. It all makes for a very comfortable backpack even if you are slightly on the larger size like me, it fits due to the large range of adjustments on all straps. Excellent value too compared to local stores.Lowepro Flipside 300 Photo Backpack - Arctic Blue

very nice camera bag by lowepro.

i am able to put in my eos 50d with the extra battery grip with tamron 70-300 attached.

i recommend that whenever you put the lenses in the bag, change the focusing to manual to protect the motor in the lens. i have also managed to put in the sigma 10-20 and the kit lens in the extra space.

i have space left for the flash unit as well as the charging cable and charger in the pocked above the camera.

in the side pocket i am able to fill with small extra's like lens brush and clothes and extra compact flash.
overall it fits nicely on your shoulders and is very compact.

    highly recommend for travel photography.

    - Kit: Canon 5Dii, 28-70L, 70-200L, 50mm prime, flash, accessories, lightweight waterproof, phone, wallet etc
    - Previous Bag: Lowepro Slingshot 200
    - Style of photography: travel, often in difficult environments (mountains or busy, tight backstreets where a lot of walking and climbing is required)
    - Bought a Lowepro Runner 350 which I returned because it was way too big for a day bag

    - The 70-200L was a recent purchase and when mounted to the camera was a tight squeeze into the Slingshot
    - I was wearing the bag all day and since the Slingshot puts the weight on one shoulder (it's a one strap design) I was getting shoulder/back ache

    - A bag with two straps that replaced the Slingshot to distribute the weight evenly
    - A simple day bag to carry the essentials for one day
    - A shoulder strap (Black Rapid RS-5) that freed up space and weight in the backpack
    - A waterproof cover

    - Almost exactly the same size as the Slingshot 300 EXCEPT I can finally carry my 70-200L
    - Even distribution of weight across the back
    - Backloading, so wandering hands can't access your essential bits of kit
    - Integrated way of carrying tripod
    - Waterbottle carrier

    - No waterproof cover
    - Frustrating side pocket
    - Not much room for anything else

I have changed the way I carry my gear. Traditionally I held the camera in my hand, wrapped around the neck strap, with my Slingshot on my back for the other stuff I might need. After a few hours I had both wrist and back ache.

This bag is ideal if you wish to carry along lens, I use a sigma 150 - 500 lens with a Nikon 7100 body and the kit lens.
There is enough space to carry this and some odd bits.
The problem I only find with any back pack and not just this make; is that the over shoulders straps are not long enough for the larger person. But you can get round this by buying from a good outdoor store an extension strap.
