5.0 out of 5 stars Bargain at Amazon's price 8 Aug 2009
Verified Purchase
I'm a bit puzzled when the basic model in a range is slated for not having the GTI go-faster bits.

When I first started hill walking, small to medium ruck sacks did not have sternum straps and did not need them because the strap spacing was properly designed for light loads. Waist straps came in later to help give your shoulders a break when carrying heavy loads, and for stability when scrambling.

I gave my Lowepro Fastpack 200 a good try out yesterday on a 4+ hour walk around the Manx green lanes and moorland. I used it as a day sack to carry a fairly light load - DSLR plus 2 lenses, waterproof and packed lunch. For this level of use I have no complaints - it is properly designed for my frame which is pretty average. The straps did not slip of my shoulder. It did not move around on my back any more than any daysack does. It did not make my back sweat too much. It did not get uncomfortable although the back pad did begin to feel just a touch flat and unyielding against my spine - but nothing serious: I was being critical.

I just wish I had bought something like this when I bought my DSLR. Instead I persisted in using an awkward shoulder bag. Would I use it for serious mountaineering? No, I would move up the range. Would I use it for a heavy set of pro gear? No. But for easy to middling days out it with "amateur" gear and for something to throw in the car or take on public transport - perfect. For this usage the absence of extraneous straps flapping about and catching on things is a bonus. I should have bought one years ago because on too many occasions the DSLR has just seemed too big and heavy and I have taken my compact and of course regretted it later. The method of access is quick and easy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Bag from Lowepro 11 Mar 2008
Having changed from a Slingshot to this backpack, I made the perfect choice.
The lower section is where you can store you camera body and lenses. I have a Canon 350D with 3 lenses, and still room for more. There are 2 memory card holders/pockets in the main compartment. There is also a separate pocket infront of the main compartment.
The top half of the bag is very roomy and has pockets and netting to hold additional kit. It is going to be very handy when out on the move to store food and drink. On the top front of the bag there is another zipped pocket, which will be handy for holding travel documents. On the side of the bag is another netted area, which will be perfect to hold a drinks bottle.

Superb bag for the price I paid.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great bit of kit 23 Sep 2009
I have just took my new Fastpack 200 to New York. I wanted a bag that could carry my different camera equipment, mini tripod, batteries, lenses, nikon D40, aswell as carry personal kit such as small coat, sun glasses, maps, ipod, phone, etc. The different compartments where more than enough and allowed me to fit in the charger when traveling over there. The fastpack was more than I expected, it was very comfortable as I covered long distances during the day. The camera compartment was very quick and easy to open which proved to be very useful not only when getting some great photo's but also when showing eqipment when passing through customs.
The Fastpack also had secure compartments which I could carry mine and my wifes passports travel tickets, etc. The Fastpack 200 is a great bit of kit and I highly recomend it. This is the first review I have ever written but I was so happy with this bag and I spent quite a bit of time searching for the right one, I felt it would help anyone looking to travel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Pack! 9 Dec 2009
I ordered this back pack to take away to Africa with me as the usual over the shoulder job camera bag was just too cumbersome.

I have to say I have been immensely impressed with this pack. Not only does it provide the ultimate protection for your camera and equipment, the top part of the pack is hugely useful too.

It was so easy to use and very robust - so much nicer to use than a shoulder bag and much more protection too - buy one!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect bag - perfect protection! 22 April 2009
I bought the Fastpack 200 some months ago for my Canon EOS 400D plus lenses and have found it perfect for the job. The bag can be slung onto one shoulder to allow the camera to be slipped in and out of the bottom compartment and can then be carried safely and comfortably on the back as a conventional rucksack. Plenty of room for extras as well.

Then, I slipped down a cliff on Lundy while carrying the bag. I only fell 3-4m but hit several rocky outcrops on the way. The bag protected my back and protected all my equipment. I don't think you can really ask for more!

4.0 out of 5 stars Convenient but not so customizable 9 Oct 2009
By VdV
Fastpack 200 is my first proper photo bag. I fit there Nikon D90 with one of the three lenses attached, and the other two just fit in two compartments. Third compartment I use for reg size flashgun. Lenses are: 50mm prime, zoom 18-70mm and big telephoto zoom. Camera is conveniently and quickly accesible like in a slingshot.

The bag houses this stuff very snugly, but it could be a little taller, so that the fast opening would make access to the items on the sides more convenient. Also the flap does not align perfectly with the bag body, but this is dismissable. The bad thin is that the zip end a bit too soon when fully open, and the flap really insists on closing by itself.

The camera compartment has detachable pads with velcro mounting, but customization is limited by scarce location of places where you can actually connect the pads. Still, you can shuffle things around a bit.

Anyways, the bag sits nicely on my back, straps adjust easily, access is convenient for the cam, but do not try to change lenses while the bag is hanging sideways on your shoulder ;) Finishing is very good, bag seems to be able to withstand a lot. Top compartment is OK, remember that this bag will not allow you to carry A4 sized papers unfolded.

If you can - see the bag in reality and compare with similar for yourself before buying here.
