Book Description

After one of the worst nights of his life, DEA Agent T.A. Reddick leaves Miami for Charleston, SC, hoping a return to his roots will heal a wounded heart and the guilt of killing a friend. The sleepy and sultry city of Charleston is filled with echoes of the Old South: genteel playboys, society debutantes, and quiet cobblestone streets. But as Reddick will soon discover, there’s danger lurking under her charming veneer. When a movie star’s death shines a national spotlight on Charleston’s underground cocaine trade, he must go undercover to find the main supplier and shut him down. As a hurricane bears down on the port city and the DEA gets ready to spring its trap, Reddick must contend with more than he ever could have imagined.

Brash and bold, TA Reddick is a hero you won’t soon forget. Lowcountry Punch is an action-packed novel that will have you on your knees begging for more.

About the Author

Boo Walker spent his College of Charleston years and a few after in Nashville as a banjoist and songwriter for the avant-garde punchgrass band, The Biscuit Boys. Some hand problems knocked him out of the game, and he stumbled into a position with a short term equity trading firm based out of Charleston, SC. To feed his ravenous muse, he began writing his first novel, Lowcountry Punch. Around that time, what started as a passion in wine became a neurosis.

After six years of the Wall Street thing, Boo decided it was time to end his sedentary, computer-driven lifestyle. He grew out a handlebar mustache and moved clear across the country into a double-wide trailer situated on 5 acres of Malbec vines just down the road from Hedges Family Estate on Red Mountain in Washington State. The Hedges family took him in and taught him the art of farming and the old world philosophies of wine. He now travels the world peddling the family’s juice, and chances are you can find him in an airport somewhere working on his next novel.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyed this a lot. 17 Jun. 2015
By CathyR
Format:Kindle Edition
4.5 stars

TA Reddick is a Federal Agent for the Drug Enforcement Administration in Miami. He and his partner are working an undercover drug ring and just getting ready to meet for a cocaine exchange in a multi storey garage. When they meet the two sellers TA recognises them as Diego and Robert Vasquez. Robert is a cop and a good friend of TA’s who had saved his life the year before. In the ensuing shoot out, Robert is killed and TA’s partner is injured. Diego Vasquez escapes.

It’s Christmas Eve and the worst night of TA’s life. He’s shot and killed his friend and his fiancée, and long time love, Anna, has left him on what was to be their first Christmas together.

Fast forward several months and TA is back home in Charleston, dealing with guilt and a broken heart, working with the local branch of the DEA. When a famous movie star, who is in Charleston filming, falls from his hotel balcony while high on cocaine, the DEA comes under pressure to crack the drug cartel and find the supplier.

TA is back working undercover to infiltrate the drug ring operating in Charleston and Savannah. Things get very complicated with a new love, a stalker who saves the day and unexpected and surprising twists in the plot.

The story is told exclusively from TA’s perspective and he’s a man full of interesting characteristics. Principled but ruthless and tough in his job, doing what is necessary, yet able to communicate his feelings honestly. He’s witty, engaging, and a very good musician. Emotional awareness and music serve to soften TA’s character and lessen considerably the conventional tough guy image.

The supporting characters are equally well defined and diverse.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great story, beautiful setting! 16 Mar. 2014
By Shannon/BooksDevoured - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I really love Charleston SC? I lived there when I was a child and I have visited many times since. I really think it is one of the best places on earth. So whenever I get a review request and the book is set in Charleston, I have to admit I am more likely to say yes! It turns out I made a good choice with Lowcountry Punch.

DEA Agent T. A. Reddick is a great main character. He is the kind of law enforcement official that actually cares about the law. He does what's right no matter who or what the consequences. I like a man who will make the hard choices! He faces many of those hard choices in this novel. I loved reading about his undercover assignment. I always think that working undercover would make me feel guilty. Like I was purposely lying to people who trust me. Then again, that is EXACTLY what I would be doing but it would be for a good reason.

I loved the diverse characters. There is a strong female character in the story and I liked her a lot. There was also a girl in the story who was a bit. . . CRAZY! By the end of the story, I liked her too! Even the "bad guys" in the story were well written. I appreciated that since sometimes the bad guys can come of as stereotypical and boring.

Though this book read like a thriller type of novel, there was an interesting romance aspect that I think will appeal to many readers as well. So Trust Me! Give this one a shot!

BOTTOM LINE: I really liked this one, go BUY it!

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed 8 Nov. 2014
By NH - Published on Amazon.com

Did not enjoy the undercover cop plot and the author seemed more concerned on the gore of a crime scene or sexual encounters of the cops in the story rather than developing the plot. The plot that was there moved slowly. This is not what I thought it was going to be from the description I read and I was disappointed and finally deleted the book not having finished it. This was just not for me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good 17 Aug. 2014

I enjoyed it, was fairly good story development and intensity, a bit to much exotic sex description for me, to have some sexual activities are normal, too much description takes away from the story line

3.0 out of 5 stars Could have been better! 22 Aug. 2014

I don't normally read love stories. But that is what this ended up to be. The start had a really good beginning as a DEA, drugs, and bad guys story. That part turned out pretty good, but then the hero agents ladies got in the way and took the book down. As I said, I don't normally read love stories....I really don't like them.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not bad for a first effort. 29 Dec. 2014

I want to be positive about this book. I thought the writing was good. It was smooth and kept my attention.

I spent four years in Charleston hence my desire for reading the book and the author did a good job describing the lowcountry.

I think the author could have done more to develop the characters. Shifting to a third person perspective could have allowed for a varied storyline. Too much focus on the main character.
