Product Description

The AMC Original Series Low Winter Sun is a gripping contemporary story of murder, deception, revenge and corruption in a world where the line between cops and criminals is blurred. Low Winter Sun begins with the murder of a cop by a fellow Detroit detective. Seemingly the perfect crime, in reality the murder activates forces that will forever alter the detective s life, and pull him into the heart of the Detroit underworld. Based on the award-winning 2006 British miniseries of the same name, Low Winter Sun stars Mark Strong (Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, Zero Dark Thirty) and co-stars Lennie James (The Walking Dead, Jericho, Snatch). Chris Mundy (Criminal Minds, Cold Case) serves as writer, executive producer and showrunner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Like lightning out of a blue sky.. 28 Jun 2014
Format:DVD
I was completely unaware of this shows existence. So glad it's come to my knowledge, seemingly from out of the blue but so disappointed to know of its cancellation.

Fantastic stuff. Murder, deception, revenge and corruption in a dark and gritty world where the line dividing cops from criminals has blurred. It begins with two detectives murdering one of their own for reasons that soon become apparent. A seemingly perfect (despite the silly mistakes considering they are seasoned detectives) and justified crime. But it initiates the downward spiral of their lives by forces out of their control, deep into the Detroit underworld.

The acting from Mark Strong and Lennie James was fantastic. I had seen Lennie play a part in Walking Dead and enjoyed his character very much, wishing to see more of him. Glad he's got a role giving centre stage. I had also seen David Costabile play a relatively small part in Breaking Bad as Gale Boetticher, the scientist meth cook Gus Fring hires, and here in Low Winter Sun he excellently plays the role of the unshakeable Internal Affairs Detective who comes to unravel what was the perfect crime. The supporting cast were also fantastic, leaving no loose thread to spoil it all.

The writing is fantastic. The direction is fantastic too, reminding me of True Detective, revealing the ugly parts of Detroit with a beautiful artistic flair. I like my crime shows like my coffee; Dark and gritty and it had them in spades. I enjoyed the story very much. Doesn't mean you will but you don't know until you give it a go. If you like your straight forward spoon fed stuff where everything is wrapped up at the end of the episode then look elsewhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent 25 Jan 2014

I read the other reviews and totally disagree. I watched this on fox and would watch it again. It is a complex story and also a remake of the British original with mark strong as the lead character. Its dark setting against Detroit adds to the storyline. I think that both mark strong and Lennie James are amazing actors who could make the dictionary a work of art. If you are unsure whether to buy this and if it is available get it on sky or virgin boxsets.

5.0 out of 5 stars 2 bad this got cancel... 2 Jun 2014

This show had something but I can't quite put my hand on it. They had British Actor's portraying American Detroiter's. The dialog was some what accurate especially that actor Lennie James, but the way they dress!! was too bland.... Detroiters dress like European's. Oh, one last thing, that title. Maybe for the main character should of been cast someone of Asian back ground??

1.0 out of 5 stars Oh dear. 7 Dec 2013
Format:DVD
The fact that no one can be bothered to even review this show speaks volumes. It was absolute rubbish. Mark Strong and Lennie James are good actors and deserved much better.

If you're going to watch an AMC show - go for Breaking Bad or Mad Men
