5.0 out of 5 stars A really gripping show, 21 Sep 2006
By Madge (London, UK) - See all my reviews
This is a brilliant show which went out recently on Channel 4 about 2 policemen who commit a murder and have to cover it up and that's where the story begins. It becomes a web of lies and gore and focuses on the stress and relationship of the two main characyers. Its stunning, shocking and gruesome right the way through and the acting is superb - especially Mark Strong. Don't miss this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gritty new crime drama, 29 Dec 2006
By Olivia Blair "climatic_fanatic" (Aberfeldy) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
The two-part, post-watershed serial centres on two police officers based in a Grassmarket police station, where they struggle in a world of greed, murder and corruption, and stars Mark Strong and Scots actor Brian McCardie.

Written by Edinburgh-born Simon Donald, Low Winter Sun was filmed in the city over seven weeks and includes footage of Edinburgh Castle, Salisbury Crags and the Forth Bridges.

Episode one opens in the kitchen of a Chinese restaurant just as a man is murdered, drowned in a tank of live lobsters. He is Detective Sergeant Brendan McCabe. His killers are detectives Frank Agnew and Joe Geddes, McCabe's partner. Both are seeking revenge.

They strap McCabe into his car, dump it in the sea and concoct an elaborate cover-up plan, confident that when the body is found, suicide will be the obvious verdict. But then another body is discovered in the boot of McCabe's car and Agnew finds himself leading an investigation into a spate of murders, one of which he himself committed. As Agnew struggles to stay one step ahead of his own team, a gothic tale of violence and corruption unravels around him. Pretty hardcore stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a fabulous way to spend an evening, 15 Sep 2006
Wow.... I watched the first episode on Channel 4 last night and had to watch the rest on More 4 straight after - I just couldn't wait! Admittedly I would watch Mark Strong staring at a wall, but leaving his excellent role aside, this was a thoroughly involving and beautifully shot film which I intend to watch over and over as soon as the DVD is released.
