This album is a subtle, sophisticated and beautiful piece of modern Americana shot through with witty british influences and a literate core. the vocals drip character and maturity and the arrangements and production are an excellent blend of the lo fi and the high brow.
This is definately a highly recommended purchase ...

I've only recently come across this album (it was released in 2004) but it's become one of my listening highlights of the year. From the opening bars of the 'Circus Music' intro to the vaudevillian 'Lady Vanishes', Caramel Jack take you on a wonderful journey of discovery. If you like your Americana full of harmony, with a touch of brass, lush orchestration, hints of hip-hop beats and a dash of British seaside you can't go far wrong to check out this excellent album. I liked it so much I managed to track down their previous release, 'Seven Brides For Caramel Jack', which is also great. Apparently they have a new CD out next Feb called '1900' - can't wait.

BUY THIS ALBUM 25 Oct 2012

Caramel Jack are the best band you've never heard of. Maybe they don't have a manager (I believe all of their albums are self released) but any record company wanting to make a fortune should pick them up and get them out there. This particular album is beautifully timeless, lush, inventive and dramatic. It is pure story telling through song and cinematic in its delivery. Alt Americana at its finest, with dashes of burlesque theatre and circus tents, the lyrical intelligence of each song is effortlessly portrayed through genius song structure.

Buy it. Then buy "Seven Brides For Caramel Jack" and then "1900". Then when you've done that hassle them on Facebook (I assume they're on there) until they release another. Then buy that.
persistence pays off in search 22 May 2012

Years ago, I read a brief review of this CD in Uncut magazine and would search for it from time to time. Finally was able to order and receive (as opposed to availability vanish a couple times in the past). Though it came out in 2004, it's my favorite CD of 2012. It's an incredible collection of songs. The first time I played it, the book I was looking through was laid aside and forgotten. I love this album!
I must give props to Amazon, in that, several times I have searched for something out of print, out of country, etc. and have learned that you just come back and keep popping that name or title in from time to time and a hit will happen at some point.
It paid off this time, big time.
And in the words of so many of those commercials: "I am a non-Amazon-paid-or-influenced customer."
