About the Author

Paul Boxcer attained a BSc (Hons) degree in Physiotherapy, and then went about working as a physiotherapist within the NHS. After working in several hospitals and private clinics around the UK, he went to Christchurch, New Zealand for two years, where he worked in one of the top sports clinics in the country. During his time working as a physiotherapist, it always intrigued him as to why some people suffering with pain get better and others do not... even though their diagnoses and subsequent treatments may be the same. This is particularly evident with individuals who suffer with low back pain and sciatica. His own self-analysis of this has culminated in Low Back Pain & Sciatica - A Personalised Treatment Approach.

Paul Boxcer's book "Low Back Pain & Sciatica - A Personalised Treatment Approach" explained clearly and methodically how the body worked and what caused lower back pain. For years I went through various treatment and exercises without much success. With this book I was able to isolate and identify the source of my problem and more importantly choose the CORRECT exercises that help.
This book was written with compassion and a deep sense of commitment to help. Armed with the right approach suggested in this book, I no longer have to live with pain unnecessarily.

For many years my mother suffered with a bad back trying the usual Physio's and Osteopath's but they just couldn't find the root of the problem, a friend of the family recommended this book to her and within weeks of reading this well illustrated and easy to follow instructions on how to exercise and strengthen her muscles, my mother has already noticed better movement and flexibility and her pain has become less intense and is improving all the time. I would definitely recommend this book.

This book and its author have been an absolute god-send for me. Having seen physios, an osteopath and an orthopaedic surgeon, I was no closer to resolving my sciatica. Following the advice and exercise presented by Paul Boxcer, I have started to make a good recovery (I still have quite some way to go, but at least I'm no longer in desperate pain or house-bound). The advice in this book is clearly written, with easy to follow diagrams. I really believe that self-help is the answer to many health issues, and the information here enables the reader to proceed in a sensible manner. The exercises are given with methods to adapt them for differing levels of mobility - brilliant - so you can progress up the levels of difficulty as your back/sciatica improve.

The amount of background information about the spine/muscles etc., is pitched just right - there are no lengthy descriptions to plough through, but enough to feel properly informed. What I like most about the book, however, is that it is optimistic and positive. The importance of this cannot be underestimated when you're in constant pain and you need reassurance that things WILL improve.

Highly recommended.

A very impressive book which I have recommended to numerous friends, family and colleagues.

I bought it when I was signed off work for a fortnight with sciatica. I started reading it straight away and I have been improving daily thanks to the various exercises. I am now back at work and although I am still taking things very gently I am sure I will be back to full fitness in a few weeks.

The book is easy to follow and has given me a much better understanding of my back pain and the practical steps I can take to hopefully eliminate my pain completely. From the number of people I have spoken to who have suffered from low back pain and sciatica, I was surprised by the number of people who are living with a constant level of pain. I have been one of these people in the past but this time the added new element of sciatica prompted me to look for further information and I found this book.

This is simply the best money I have ever spent.

This book has been really informative and full of easy to implement and practical tips on how to fix my low back pain and sciatica.

I suffered with sciatica down my leg for around a year on and off, somedays getting out of bed and walking would cause a shooting pain down my leg causing me to limp somedays. My doctor said I would have to live with it. Luckily I found this book and someone that knows what they are talking about.

Paul really knows the ins and outs of how your back works and how to reduce or eliminate the pain. The book is full of useful illustrations of exercises to do to fix and prevent your back pain. Thanks to the tips in this book I am now pain free for the most part as long as I keep up the back exercises everyday which take around 5-10 minutes to complete.

I fully recommend this book to anyone suffering from sciatica and low back pain even when nothing else has worked.

Simple
Step by Step
Straightforward

Paul Boxcer guides the reader through a "Learning Zone"; a very simple explanation of how we are put together in terms of bones and muscles; how we work; what happens when things don't work the way they should. The reader follows a logical sequence of identifying the cause of the pain and is then given the tools (right conditions) to self-manage, address and ultimately resolve the pain itself. This book is jargon free and puts the information across in a very easy-to-read style. It includes clear instructions on stretches and exercises structured into a manageable program; straightforward, effective.

As a Pilates Instructor for some 12 years I have taught many participants who complain of non-specific Low Back Pain and Sciatica. They have been everywhere searching for the illusive cure. On week 1 of my Beginner's course I always state we are about to embark on a journey, initially of discovery and once we identify the cause of the pain we can begin to alleviate the pain itself.

Initially this means we have to pay a little more attention (listen) to our body identifying as Paul describes them, the "Aggravating Factors" and the "Easing Factors" together with the role certain muscles are playing - those which are too tight or too weak.

If you know "why" you can make an educated and informed decision. This book educates the reader as to why and gives them the methodology to help themselves.
I can thoroughly recommend the book as an investment in yourself.

I will be seeking treatment from Paul for RSI - continual head nodding in agreement!!
