The third book in the Casebook of Barnaby Adair novels by the reigning queen of historical romance: Stephanie Laurens.

Product Description

New York Times bestselling author Stephanie Laurens returns with another thrilling story from the Casebook of Barnaby Adair . . .

Miraculously spared from death, Malcolm Sinclair erases the notorious man he once was. Reinventing himself as Thomas Glendower, he strives to make amends for his past, yet he never imagines penance might come via a secretive lady he discovers living in his secluded manor.

Rose has a plausible explanation for why she and her children are residing in Thomas's house, but she quickly realizes he's far too intelligent to fool. Revealing the truth is impossibly dangerous, yet day by day, he wins her trust, and then her heart.

But then her enemy closes in, and Rose turns to Thomas as the only man who can protect her and the children. And when she asks for his help, Thomas finally understands his true purpose, and with unwavering commitment, he seeks his redemption in the only way he can - through living the reality of loving Rose.

I really enjoyed this book - it kind of kept you on your toes trying to decide who the bad guy was (and I did actually pick it up before it was revealed). Malcolm Sinclair beats death and reinvents himself as Thomas Glendower (a financial whiz) and who behind the scenes provides financial assistance to many (after many years of doing the opposite). He then returns home to find Rose installed in his house with two children in tow. Even though Thomas is now disfigured an attraction grows and Rose finally tells him her story and why she is mascarading as a house keeper. Quite a way through the book he enlists the help of Barnaby Adair and Inspector Stokes and the rest of the gang to help him unravel Rose's plight and untimately allow them to be together. I'm certainly looking forward to number 4 in this series.

If I see her name I go and buy the book. Sometimes the sexual details are a bit unnecessary - we do have imagination, but her books always have an added tension.

A good read. I felt sorry for Malcolm in earlier books so it was nice to give him a happy ending.
