I have devoured a large number of Pride and Prejudice sequels but this one is, by far, the worst one I have ever read. I finished the book, primarily because I had paid good money to buy it but I can't imagine I will be reading it again.
There first thing which grated was that Mr Darcy had totally lost his character and backbone and had become a limp lettuce. I love a good romance but I reached overload with the gushing "my love" and (by way of a change) "my beloved", with which Lizzie and Darcy punctuated every sentence. I began to feel that the author had nothing else to say and those phrases were there to fill the pages.
That brings me to the other issue: where, or what, was the plot? If there was one, it certainly passed me by. I suppose the book could be summed up as a diary of Darcy and Elizabeth's daily life covering a few months. The other P&P characters turned up, in varying degrees; other, new, characters appeared; throw in the odd caustic comment and a few tears and there you have it.
Oh, and while I am having a moan, I also found the 'Americanisms' jarred, with phrases like 'negative attitude' and 'hold that thought' removing any belief in the period setting.
