Product Description

Review

'Ruth Prawer Jhabvala is in a category of her own' --Patrick French, Financial Times

'This is a hugely enjoyable collection, written with sly humour in a cool prose in which genuinely striking images are all the more forceful for being sparingly used' --Peter Parker, Sunday Times

'Beautifully written and perfectly paced, it is further proof of the power and mastery of her storytelling. Highly recommended' --Aesthetica magazine

'A masterclass in storytelling and writing beautiful, luminous prose. Her fictions are as sinister as the original tales of the Brothers Grimm, but told with a moral delicacy, in gentle and dangerous prose' --Literary Review

Book Description

* Multi-layered, subtle, wonderful new short stories from the inimitable Booker-prize winning author, Ruth Prawer Jhabvala

By Ralph Blumenau TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
The subtitle - Tales from East and West - is a better description of this collection of eleven short stories, only four of which are set in India.

The author is always a pleasure to read, and her account of relationships are always intriguing; but several of these stories have an inconclusive ending which I, for one, found rather unsatisfying.
