Isabelle Goddard was born into an army family and spent her childhood moving around the UK and abroad. Unsurprisingly it gave her itchy feet and in her twenties she escaped from an unloved secretarial career to work as cabin crew and see the world.
The arrival of marriage, children and cats meant a more settled life in the south of England, where she has lived ever since. It also gave her the opportunity to go back to 'school' and eventually teach at university.
Isabelle loves the nineteenth century and grew up reading Georgette Heyer, so when she plucked up the courage to begin writing herself her first novel had to be a Regency romance. Reprobate Lord Runaway Lady was published in January, 2011 and since then five more novels have rolled off the press. www.isabellegoddard.com has all the details.
She has had enormous fun writing Regencies but in 2014 published her first romantic suspense novel The Crystal Cage, writing as Merryn Allingham. Merryn's new project is a romantic suspense trilogy set in the 1930s/1940s moving between India and Britain. The series follows the fortunes of Daisy Driscoll, a working class girl from London. The first book should be out next January, so take a look at www.merrynallingham.com for the latest news.
You always know you are in safe hands when you read an Isabelle Goddard story. A consummately professional narrator, she weaves in the back story skilfully enough so that within the first few pages, the scene is set and the conflict established, as well as a good degree of empathy for both characters. I always look out for her work, and she never lets me down! Well done!
