Book Description

3 May 2012

In May 2007, while on a family holiday, Bébhinn Ramsay's husband Alastair woke in the middle of the night with a fever. Just over forty-eight hours later, he died in a San Francisco hospital from a rare complication to a common infection. At the age of thirty-one Bébhinn had lost her soulmate, the father of her two young sons, but also her faith in life.
In Love's Last Gift, this inspirational and thought-provoking memoir, we journey with Bébhinn as she searches for answers and a sense of meaning to her husband's untimely death.
From walking the Camino de Santiago with her two young sons in the weeks following Alastair's death, to spiritual retreats and self-reflection, we discover how Bébhinn eventually finds peace, happiness and acceptance by opening her mind and her heart.
Love's Last Gift is a beautifully-written and ultimately uplifting memoir of hope, courage and eternal love.

In 2008, Bébhinn Ramsay set up ARCH, the Alastair Ramsay Charitable Trust, and moved to Florianópolis, Brazil to oversee Child Health Florianópolis, a child-focussed charity.
All royalties from Love's Last Gift go directly to ARCH.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring - a must-read! 10 May 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Bebhinn lost her husband, Alastair, very suddenly, leaving her with two sons under 4 to care for. This book takes the reader through her painful journey, but without being a 'misery memoir'. She describes with elegance (and the odd burst of gallows humour) the maelstrom of emotions that assailed her from every side throughout their ordeal, the heartbreak of losing Alastair, bargaining with God, with anyone, to bring him back to her. But he doesn't come back and instead she is left to carry on without him. She decides to follow their dreams despite his absence, manages to find her way through the pain and come to an acceptance of her loss and to an emergence of new joys, even without her soulmate at her side. Bebhinn is a gifted writer: there's no schmaltz here, just honest, beautiful words, and I wish her and her wonderful boys the best of everything in the years to come.

This is a wonderfully written, moving account of how Bebhinn copes with the sudden, tragic death of her husband aged just 39. It is a compelling read which I found impossible to put down.

Love's Last Gift was written by a college classmate who suffered the sudden death of her beloved husband and father of their young sons.

It is heart-wrenchingly tragic, but also amazingly lucid on the intricate details of dealing with grief.

Beautifully written, it is inspiring and gives faith in the human spirit. Read it before it's made into a film!
