Format:Audio CD
I've had to seek out many of Tanita's works after the first
two collections but this one is so unusual, deep in many places
and she just gathers you into her world. I'm not always sure
of what she's saying half the time but it just sounds great
in the mix. She is one (way, way) underrated singer who caught
some early fame and fans and many of us stayed on for the ride,
and continue to enjoy all her musical explorations. She is not
so easy to categorize but well worth listening to if you're
even the least bit romantic this music will take you places.
My favorites, "I might be crying" w/ Jennifer Warnes, "My love
tonight", "Lovers in the City",(so moving and sensual), also, "Feeding the Witches", "Happy
Taxi", very nice stuff.

Tanita Tikaram does it again, and she does it, almost effortless. Lovers in the City is a great listen, right from the opening track "I might be crying" pining for lost love, which is probably the most accessible the album could offer. The album is full of so many gems that rightfully stand on their own, and nothing seems to sound alike. There's "Feeding the witches", "Leaving the Party" and the rhythmic "Happy Taxi" Songs only Tanita's voice can hone to perfection. Perhaps, this is probably the same reason why all have simple arrangements, and the instruments, sparse . And then there's just the most wonderful "My love tonight" quiet, simple, and true. It touches the heart in so many places. And for a moment, it's nice to be lovelorn.

This album has been at the top of my very varied CD collection for so long now. I don't know how I stumbled across Tanita Tikarum's music, but I'm pleased I did. Its not a CD to put on after work or for in the car and its not packed with toe-tapping tracks, but this album fills a mood that not many other musicians can. A real haunting, earthy voice that I return to again and again.
