Book Description

28 Jan 2014
Amy Scott-Simon, a young New York heiress, is engaged to marry Max Diamond, an older powerful real estate tycoon. At her bachelorette party, she runs into Jett, Max's younger half-brother who is fresh back from Italy, where he is a successful male model. They have no idea who each other are. A one night fling leads to complications and regrets. Meanwhile, Chris Diamond -- a hot L.A entertainment lawyer -- flies into town to meet with his two brothers and Red Diamond, the boys' dysfunctional billionaire father. Working as Red's housekeeper is Diahann, whose stunning bi-racial nineteen-year-old daughter, Liberty, does not approve of her mother's occupation. As Liberty pursues the dreams her mother once had, to sing, Damon P. Donnell, married hip-hop mogul supreme, pursues her. And then there is Mariska, Max's Russian socialite ex-wife, a woman with more secrets than anyone, secrets that ultimately lead to her brutal and mysterious murder. As the lives of these characters intertwine, power, love, sex, money and fame are the ties that bind in this highly charged love story about family relationships, deadly choices and dangerous sex.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gripping, Sexy, FANTASTIC READ! 12 Aug 2006
By Sarah
I bought this on a spur of the moment thing. fancied a summer read and this Book caught my eye. It took awhile for the story to start, lots of charecters to introduce and storylines set out, but it begins to get really good right in the middle of the book, after that, its very difficult to put down. The charecters, all different and Vibrant in Many ways. I love the scandal, the secrets, the lies, the deception, the love, the Hate. ITS ALL GOOD! i definatly recomend this book. I am now a fan of jackie Collins, after reading this book, how could you not be.

I am actually quite sad i finished the book, Would love to see a sequel *hint, hint*

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing 12 Nov 2005
I have read nearly all of Jackie Collins books and I feel that they seemed to have gone steadily downhill since Rock Star. Unfortunately her latest offering has followed the same pattern. The 'bad guy' Red is a caricature of a villain and the main players the sons, seem to be terrified of him in the first half of the book, then suddenly start standing up to him for no reason in the second. Also I cannot believe that Red would have done what he did (I won't spoil it for you by telling you) to his son Max without any seeming repercussions and Max still was in contact with him in later years!
The character of Liberty does not seem to really fit in with the storyline, I presume Jackie Collins was intending to use her as the surprise twist at the end but then realised it was so obvious that she dropped the 'twist' and unveiled it about 2 chapters before the end of the book. I feel that Liberty and all associated characters could have been dropped without losing anything from the plot, indeed some more depth could have been given to some of the other characters.
I do not know how other readers feel, but have any of you noticed that a lot of her characters in her later books, seem to have conversations in single sentances? It makes them come across as very shallow and I find it really annoying when reading the story!
I loved Jackie Collins earlier books, Lovers and Gamblers (for me) was Jackie Collins at her best and the way she bought all the different characters together at the end of the book was fantastic. I feel she has never repeated this as successfully in following books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another fantastic 'get away from it all' book 23 Feb 2006
By A Customer
I have just finished this book in 1 sitting! Fantastic. I have read all her books and although this isn't one of her very best I could not put it down.
It is a great book to get lost in and to read about what the half get up to.
Can't wait for her next one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Slightly disappointed 14 Feb 2006
I had expected it to be better. The only character I thought was likeable was Chris, I found Amy annoying. I guessed the plot twist, and I didn't really warm to Damon either. I usually like Jackie Collins, but this book was not really up to her usual standards, although still a fairly good read. The plot was interesting enough to keep me hooked, it was the characters I had trouble warming to.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Lovers and Players" by Jackie Collins 3 Oct 2005
The Diamond brothers, Max, Chris and Jett, have been summoned, with no reason given, to the New York home of Red, their estranged, despotic father.
Their lives have been variously blighted by business problems, gambling debts and drink and drug abuse. Some of which has been exacerbated or even engineered by their cruel patriarch.
Lovely, virginal heiress Amy Scott-Simon is about to be married to Max. Egged on by her girlfriends on a pre-wedding night out, she lets her hair down and ends up being swept off her feet by a fascinating stranger.
Bi-racial beauty Liberty is a waitress/would-be singer trying to catch the eye of hip-hop mogul Damon P Donnell as she serves him coffee. Hoping for the opportunity to pass on her demo CD to the man that could help her fulfil her dream of a musical career.
Thus the roller coaster ride begins. The lives of these and other captivating characters intertwine over a period of seven days and woven into the fabric of the story is a mixture of sex, money, murder and intrigue which combines to make the vivid tapestry that is "Lovers and Players" another un-put-down-able book from Jackie Collins.
Having read and enjoyed all Jackie Collins' previous work, I'm pleased to say this book does not disappoint. It is another terrific page-turner from The Mistress of the genre.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another brilliant Jackie Collins novel 7 Aug 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Fantastic storyline, like all her books, it's a good and quick read with plenty of excitement and mini mysteries, this book isn't as erotic as some of her books, but the characters and writing is still pure class!

3.0 out of 5 stars Its Ok 8 Feb 2008
I didn't find this book quite as gripping as some of Ms Collins' other books. However once I was about half way through I found my self rushing towards the end. I did guess some of what was going on, but not all of it.

I would probably suggest that this is a book just for light hearted reading, on the beach or something, but not as a book for great excitement.

5.0 out of 5 stars You've got to love her! 5 April 2009
This was my first foray into Jackie Collins, or indeed anything belonging to this genre. It was specifically bought for a beach holiday, and it made perfect holiday reading. I got into it within 5 pages and was hooked to the (larger than life) characters. Great literature is not what you're getting, but who cares, it's a damn good read.
